Photographer’s Note
The Terracotta Army are the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Shi Huang Di the First Emperor of China.
The terracotta figures, dating from 210 BC, were discovered in 1974 by several local farmers near Xi'an, Shaanxi province, China near the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor.
The figures vary in height, 184–197 cm, according to their role, the tallest being the Generals.
The figures include warriors, chariots, horses, officials, acrobats, strongmen, and musicians.
Current estimates are that in the three pits containing the Terracotta Army there were over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried in the pits.

Hello Paolo. The title is very fitting and the image is well done. When you think of the amount of carving that was invested in this army it seems beyond comprehension. Why so many? What was the purpose and objective of creating these in the first place? Simply amazing. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Paolo.
For sure the B&W is a lovely idea to get a different pic of something typical from Xian.
Well done!

Ciao Paolo,
una bella immagine di questo esercito di terracotta, devo dire che la qualita' non e' all'altezza del tuo standard, forse perche' hai usato la piccolina.
comunque rimane un interessante documento.

Great one to complement with the recent post of Chris, Paolo. I really love the textures of this dramatic b&w. And the repetition effect, some darker and some lighter. Impressive image from this well known place.

Hi Paolo,
I have always wanted to visit this place, and I think that it must be quite strange to stand there looking at these warriors. The black and white suits the subject and enhances their sense of being very old. Strange how they all have different expressions.

Hello Paolo,
Good idea to deal this subject in B&W. It is something I would like to visit one day. I know there is an exposition in Paris, perhaps I will try to see it when I will go there.
Yves.
