Photographer’s Note

I was very lucky because of, i informed for the event 'the dance of waters', that is take effected in thin time intervals, in the square of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. The rain as soon as had finished and a crowd of spectators, natives and foreigners,watched the spectacle

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda or Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Chinese: 大雁塔; pinyin: Dàyàn Tǎ), is a pagoda located in southern Xi'an, Shaanxi province, China. The structure was built in 652 during the Tang Dynasty and originally had five stories. One of the pagoda's many functions was to hold sutras and figurines of the Buddha that were brought to China from India by the Buddhist translator and traveller Xuanzang.

The pagoda was built during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang (r. 649-683). Early in the 8th century, the ruling Empress Wu Zetian had five more stories added in the year 704 AD. However, later wars damaged the pagoda reducing it to its current height of seven stories. The pagoda currently stands at a height of 64 m (210 ft) tall and from the top it offers views over the current city of Xi'an. During the Tang Dynasty the pagoda was located within the grounds of a monastery, within a walled ward of the larger southeastern sector sector of the city, then known as Chang'an.

The monastic grounds around the pagoda during the Tang Dynasty had ten courtyards and a total of 1,897 bays. In those days graduate students of the Advanced Scholars examination in Chang'an inscribed their names at this monastery.

Close by the pagoda is the Temple of Great Maternal Grace; Da Ci'en. This temple was originally built in AD 589 and then rebuilt AD 647 in memory of his mother Empress Wende by Li Zhi who later became the Tang Emperor Gaozong.

The monk Xuanzang's statue stands in front of the temple area.

it's a very difficult shot danos.
So when I am looking to the settings it was a handheld shot. my compliments for that. Yes I know that it is a very good camera the 5d. the light effect is nice of this water dance. With a tripod you had more chance to made the shot perfect. good photojob anyway.

I like very much these silhouettes which get loose in front of fountains. It is a good idea to have taken the photo with hindsight. It also allows to have the reflections in the pond.

Hi Danos,
It must be an amazing place to visit at night. From the thumbnail, I thought that those water backlashes were trees. The compo is quite interesting, with the fountain combining/contrasting nicely with the human silhouettes. The violet reflections on the left give a nice depth and makes the image more dynamic, allowing a visual zigzag way to our eyes.

A very effective 'silhouette' shot, with the fountains looking like a forest of pale, tall, trees. Interesting to see how many of the people are also taking photographs - your POV is better I think!

Photographing the spraying water and silhouettes in front of it always works, as here you prove perfectly. The graphical (almost statistically mathematical) distribution of the jets and the figures make this one even more attractive.

there is not a lot of light sources in this shot, but the small amount makes all the difference. The silhouttes of all the people against the ilumminated fountain is great and even the little purple light spots in the left foreground gives an interesting view. It seems that these spots leads to a photographer with a tripod :-)

Μου αρέσει η λεπτομέρεια των αντανακλάσεων από τα μώβ φωτάκια στο νερό, που δίνει κάτι το ιδιαίτερο στην σύνθεση σου.

A fine image & for a handheld shot, this is superb. The light is low & yet we see the fountains so very well. They look like pale trees in front of the silhouette of the people. Like the light on the water as well in the FG. Well composed & well shot.

Hi Danos.

I have seen this! I was walking there last september when I heard this music start up. Then we saw the water! It was a really good show. Did you go into the middle???? Maybe not with your 5D! I did, but at that time I just had my compact! I feel you have handled this well. You have a really good composition and I like your point of view as well (maybe just far enough away so you wont get sprayed on!)
