Photographer’s Note
continuing my series of lesser known places in China...
This is Wangkou, a village in Wuyuan in northern Jiangxi. Essentially it is a one street town, its main street, the only street more or less wide enough for a cart to pass through, following the bend in the river.
Not far away is Likeng, which has become something of a regional tourist destination. Although it is possible to stay in Wangkou, not many people do so. Sometimes this village is included on a day trip around the Wuyuan area, sometimes it isn't.
The name of the village refers to its location and means 'entrance to the water'. Now there are about 1700 people living here, most of them have the surname Yu and are descendants of the Song dynasty official Yu Gao, who founded the village in around 1100 AD. The very impressive Yu family ancestral hall is rightfully regarded as as an architectural and artistic treasury.

Hi Benny
I like the POV, that shows us the village like if we were emerging from the forest after a long, tiring and dangerous walk... The POV of a fugitive, in a way, still hidden in the vegetation. I also like the strong contrast of colors. tell me if I am wrong: it seems the river banks, on that side, are used as a natural bridge. That, along with the compact mass of the houses, give to the village a lot of mood. Your descriptive note is interesting. The fact that amazes me is that the number of people you mention can inhabit in a so tiny area. Well, maybe it's bigger than what it seems but like this, it looks really small! Well done!

Dag Benny,
Een interessante foto die een beeld geeft van een van de kleinere dorpjes in China, iets waarover je weinig hoort. Het leven daar is waarschijnlijk heel verschillend van dat in Bejing of Shanghai...
Groetjes,
Paul

Dear Benny
I saw from your album that you're finished with China pictures...but to dwell on more, I continue my focus on your China shots. This one, at first glance does not look like China, moreso since the houses are, well how can I say, so un-Chinese! Weather still did not do any favours (I see you used ISO 400), but the fine colours of the foliage in the FG makes this very attractive
Best Regards
Angshu
