Photographer’s Note
From somewhere between Changsha and Shaoshan in Hunan province. We stopped with our bus full of Scandinavian students in this village to have lunch, (where I tasted snakeblood-ricewine for the first, and perhaps also last time), and consequently attracted the curiosity of the villagers. They were a friendly bunch, and as we were leaving the streets turned into a maze of burning firecrackers and laughing spectators seeing us off.
All in all my recollections of Hunan was of smiling and inviting people and a place where the posters of the "Great Chairman" still adorns the wall of most houses.
