Time: 1993-2000
Behind each face is a life story, which is closely connected Chinese traditions and changes happened in China. This is an 89-year-old granny of sound health. Behind is her coffin put in the kitchen. Older Chinese still believe in the existence of a dead world, where coffin is the house for the dead. It is a custom to prepare one’s coffin when the person is still alive. Usually, a coffin made of pine wood costs several thousands, a good fortune in rural China.
