Photographer’s Note
Unlike the overly sanitised Western World a Chinese market is up front about the processes which underpin it - this image is from the flower and vegetable market in downtown CQ but there is plenty of live fowl and fish and rabbits on offer too.

Good morning Kev. There is something slightly incongruous about this one. She doesn't seem to be very suitably dressed for the messy task. And her rather bewildered expression seems to ask the question "why on earth is he pointing that thing at me?". But you are certainly right about Eastern attitudes towards food and its general preparation - something us Westerners find very hard to swallow - if you'll excuse the pun!
Best regards, Roberto

Oh my! First day on the job and someone really should have told her to at least bring some wellies! She really doen't look quite prepared now does she? Nevertheless, quite a shot with her bland facial expression and the blood red splatterings on her socks, shoes and trousers. The deep colour of blood contrasts well with her light blue slippers and pale skin. An interesting shot indeed - did you get any of the rabbits? You know TE loves rabbits!
All the best, Casper

Kev,
Very unusual photo - unusual pose filling the frame - not everday to we see a young lady with her legs this far apart, crotch splattered with eel blood, if that's what it is. She's looking your way Kev - "next!"
Regards
Colin

Hello Kev
Well, I'm sure you've visited Indian markets as well...offers pretty much similar spectacle. I guess what she's doing here is to take out the intestines. Wonder what she's carrying in her bag which is strapped around her shoulders. I, for quite some time, wanted to take my camera to the fish market, but simply could not proceed beyond the flowers & fruit stalls. A fine documentary shot!
Best Regards
Angshu
PS : Since you like folk-art, you may take a look at some of my shots from Surajkund fair which I had taken within my nominal capabilities. IMO, you can also make a point to visit this fair once…it’s held in February every year.
