Photographer’s Note
A lecturer at the Sichuan Institute of Fine Art and a practising artist at the Tank Loft Studios - I liked the classical competency of his work but then these bold cuts into the work place it firmly in the realms of contemporary art. The main figure is Confucious.

A great piece of photography, Kev, The exposure is lovely and the whole scene modeled by a lovely even light. The whole thing is worthy of a master class. I can't agree with you about his art however, even if the idea is interesting. It's you picture, not his work , that is the work of art. regards kev

Hi Kev
I really like the way you have caught this artist at work. The B&W presentation really throws into relief the fine detail of his sculpture.

We are back to Chongqing I see Kev. The B&W allows for much more textural detail here, especially of the sculpture itself. Its nice to see how the artist is giving life to his subjects.

First, I like that you caught a moment of art being redefined/deconstructed while you yourself were in a moment of pure creation. As to his work, I find his interpretation of Michelangelo's Pieta interesting. Maybe more self-affirming or perhaps more politically than artistically challenging. Not sure how how feel about that. Honestly, I hope the intent was more about inter-connectedness. Either way...
Looking at your work, I appreciate your timing - the unfinished nature of the arms and legs in prominent views fits right in with his deconstruction of a master work. His eventually completed work can't hide the secrets captured in your shot. I like the tones, the darker shadows complimenting the hiding of a work until it's ready for unveiling. One thing I think I'd like to see is for him to have been caught a bit more engaged with his work. Line of the eye thing. I do understand that the message was teaching, but with the prominance of the controversial work filling the majority of the screen, I feel we're drawn to it while he isn't. A bit of a bystander in his own scene. Still, for your work moreso than his, I give all the credit. It's very good Kev.

Hi Kevin,
That's an interesting peace of photography.
I'm not sure I would enjoy this thing in my living room.
Cheers

What a clash of cultures!
A Chinese "Pieta" with Confucious as Mary!
This is even more original than my weirdest dreams!
The composition is classical, with a very subtle presentation of the three heads, and the delightful cast of light and shade. I adore the slight tint of sephia here.
Best wishes,
Deniz

Hi Kev,
A very interesting story and photograph. When one thinks about China, it's often about constraints in media and human rights. This type of expression is often forgotten and it pleases me to see a photograph dedicated to it. Not knowing the situation around the arts in China, it does please me to see that to some extend the artist is pursuing his artistic freedoms here. Nice.
Greetings,
Dennis
