[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On the roof of Chongqing's great permanent planning exhibition, groups of men prepare a tourism display. Below this spot are moored the many river tour boats which ply the Yangtze River down to the famous Three Gorges - the roof is peppered with hopeful kite, map and magazine sellers and of course the ever persistent shoe shiners. I was amused to see these guys emerge from under their temporary bed here in the foreground whilst all this industry was taking place in the background - they were busy putting this up when we arrived and equally busy with the same element of the display later as we went down into the exhibition. The latter, in which photographs were very firmly forbidden, is an amazing planning display with the largest planning model I've ever seen anywhere in the world - just remarkable!

Only thing was - where were the visitors? The place was relatively empty - such a massive investment - well I guess mid-week it might be the same as large museum like institutions anywhere - but certainly a fantastic opportunity to involve and enlighten the population of this great city in the processes of and consultation about urban planning.......how? Well, these are questions I may have something more to contribute to........certainly a level of consultation is taking place....I'm fascinated to know more.

Hi Kev
Unique photo...
Colours, sharpness and light are well...
Well framed...

On the thumbnail this shot doesn't have much impact, so I'm glad I opened it up.
What it does really well is tell the story of what's happening here, it's an image in the best traditions of photojournalism. The composition is good, with the on-shift guys beavering away in the background contrasting well with the relaxed poses of the men in the foreground. I also like how the colour of their 'bed' is echoed in the colour of the leaves on the advertising hoarding.
Good work Kev.

Cheers,
Ben

There you have your primary colors... all of them, in pure state... you must be happy :-)

I held back a bit of my green supply of smilies because of the burnt white over the top... sometimes I can live with it, but here I feel it really hurts the final effect...

Hi Kev

Nice vertical comp. Maybe a little overexposed but it really works. Vivid colors and very sharp with good detail. Unique capture of daily life. Well done.

Merhaba Kev,

this is very interesting shot shows us 2 contrasting view of workers' life. Congratulations.

best regards,
Hakan

Love this one, Kev, it's got all the elements of a meaningful capture - the fake Sakura giving a theatricality to te background, the fellows way up high on the scaffolding, mirrored by the group below on the pink tarp.
I find it quite brilian actually - wished I'd taken it...

You've taken some great shots in China Kev. I haven't had much opportunity to view your work but will do so now! As the others have pointed out, I like the workers up high in the background and the ones at the front add a nice touch of contrast. The colours are all very vivid and as for the white sky, well welcome to the far east!

Interesting shot, especially the contrast between both the people on the scaffolding (which is a photo in itself) and the more bright, modern and cheerful looking people below. The colours mix nicely here, just a slight shame about the slight overexposure of the green.
