Photographer’s Note

During our trip to China in 2007, we were taken to a local village & treated to a simple show that they put on for the tourist’s.
While others went to bye the local art & crafts, I had a look round & came upon these two, old & new you could say, I just thorght they looked good together.

Yes they do! A nice double portrait, where at least the man seems to have a refreshingly relaxed attitude to the camera. I also like thw view of the surroundings and the heaps of autumn leaves on the ground.

Interesting shot, Wilson. The man on the clutches looks very strong and self-assured, cool with that cigarette too. And it's great to see the kid - somewhat afraid - grabbing hold of the clutch instead of hanging onto dad's trousers. Good picture!

Wow, what a wonderful daily life scene. I love the expression on the man's face. He does not bother the least that you are taking a picture of him. His son looks both curious and a bit scared. Wonderful colours and lighting. TFS and have a nice evening!

I work the whole day with patients using crutches and now i see those after work again....

wonderful double portrait :) The man, although with his crutches, looks fairly self-assured, he doesn't seem to be in a hurry anywhere.
I also like the title of the photo. It can be interpreted in various ways.
Whenever I see a photo-portrait I always wonder what makes people agree to have their photo taken..

A charming portrait of the special relation of grandfather and grandson, which seems to be universal. Their clothes and the reddish tones of the photo, which remind a scan, makes me think that it was taken at least 20 years ago, which makes it very special.

Fine sample of street photography despite the non-cooperative two in the back. There's a sense of contradiction in the man's uncaring expression versus the boy's support. One problem appears to be the skin color, which sometimes find quite challenging to get right. Regards,

Yes the portrait does work out well with the crutches almost framing the man and his son/grandson and stop the eye from straying to the background. You have the attention of both people. Well done

Hi, Wilson. Two generations here. The crutches form a good frame for the little boy holding one of them for support. A good portrait with the boy wondering what's happening and the man looking rather indifferent to the situation.

I like the simple contrast of the very small in the legs of the very big. The crutches give a slightly more moving impression, but unnecessary in my opinion.

Hello Wilson, 25-years ago I visited China, and was told that there was no social security system, and that grandparents (especially grandfathers) became babysitters for the grandchildren. It must still have been the extended family system, but in a park in Suzhou I saw at least half-a-dozen elderly men with their grandchildren. The is a great shot; I think the man is a little too old to be the father of the tiny child. You've captured the pair beautifully.
