Her Royal Highness Knatha Bopha's Stupa at the Royal Palace

The Royal Palace of Phnom Penh, Cambodia is a complex of buildings which are the royal abode of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Its full name in the Khmer language is Preah Barom Reachea Vaeng Chaktomuk. The Kings of Cambodia have occupied it since it was built in 1866, with a period of absence when the country came into turmoil during and after the reign of the Khmer Rouge.

The palace was started after King Norodom relocated the royal capital from Oudong to Phnom Penh after the mid-1800s. It was gradually built atop an old citadel called Banteay Kev. It faces towards the East and is situated at the Western bank of four divisions at the Mekong River called Chaktomuk (an allusion to Brahma).

The area is surrounded by walls. Please find in the workshop two wall paintings (painting 1, painting 2).

Bonjour Achim,
rien à redire, exposition parfaite, couleurs intenses, ciel magnifique. Mise au point précise, je peux juste ajouter que le sujet est d'une grande beauté architecturale.
Regards.
Daniel.

The square format works with the duo of subjects, of course a passing monk in orange robe would have been perfect :-)

Wow, this looks like a fantastic place to visit and I wish I can do it soon (I have been planning!!!). The colours contrast between the two temples is amazing. And the sky is really good adding a lot to the picture beauty. Well done.

Hallo Achim. Die Stupa ist sehenswert. Jedes Land in Südostasien hat seine typische Architektur. Irgendwann erkennt man sofort, was nach Thailand, Burma usw. gehört. Das Photo gefällt mir sehr gut. Die hohe technische Qualität, die Farben usw. sind vorbildlich. Viele Grüße, wolfgang.

Hi Achim
Very nice view of the Royal Highness Knatha Bopha's Stupa. Excellent POV and colours
Have a nice day

Hi Achim,
This palace is a work of art really fit for a king. Lucky this place was spared from the damages of war ... it would have been a great tragedy to lose this iconic structure. Image and color quality is very good and so as your informative notes. Well captured and composed. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hello Achim,

Achim,
Nice shot from this very interesting constructions. The details are great and are very vivid. Amazing shapes.

Paulo

Hi Achim,
Very special structure. It is full of small details, and still the overall form is very lean. Building on the right looks more traditional and still they have something in common.
Sidelight on your shot shows forms well.
Kari

Hallo Achim,
Excellent setting for this photo of a great architectural beauty.
The Stupa is outlined majestic on the blue sky and fills the image with its splendid and rich decoration and sculpture, though the building that is aside is really magnificent and accompanies her finely.
The quality of the image and of the colors is impressive.
A very fine work.
Friendly regards,
Josep

Hi Achim,

at first thank you for your wishes regarding my last two posts (I hope nobody read this critique.. :) Well, this is what I call an effective archotecture post. First the image is really good, it shows all the details in soft and real colors, with great sharpness. Second is the informative note. Maybe you are one of the few members who understand well the term "learning about the world through photography". Great work!
Regards,
Carlos

hello Achim

Really superb pov to have this greyish pyramid shaped base and tower, in stark contrast to the gold and red. Good composition.

Guten Morgen Achim,
ungewöhnliches Gebäude oder was es sein soll, sehr guter Blickpunkt mit der Gesamtarchitektur und hohe Qualität in allen Dingen. Die Lampe und Treppen geben eine Idee der Größe.

It was a good idea to have that straight, centered, in a square frame. Usually, it's a little academic, but here, it fits with the monument. And you have such pure light...
Stéphane

Hi Achim. Great photo. You have handled the high contrast scene well and captured some wonderful colours and good detail. Nice balance in the composition also. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hello Achim,
I like the visual contrast between the two structures!
A pleasant composition with a fine sense of depth, and the angle of light adds a 3-D feeling to the structures...
Details and sharpness are top shelf, and attractive colours palette!
Greetings,
Pablo -

I suppose that this is a historical site! The composition is great with saturated colours and well framed. The light differences were great but well managed, too.
I wish you a good day,
Athanasios.

WOW,
what a marvelous architectural shot. It is extremely clean and well composed with the predominantely white stupa in the foreground and the building to the right competing for some attention and giving balance to the shot. The light is just right with a low angle and giving a strong contrast and great shadows to provide even better details in the texture of both buildings.
Peter

Hi Achim,

The point of view is showing the Royal Highness Knatha Bopha's Stupa under a beautiful blue sky and in the background another building of the palace. The subject is well framed. The light brings out the best of the colors. Have a nice day.
