An elephant trying to get into a bar in Phnom Penh, probably after reading too many books about Babar, the French elephant.
Under the elephant's belly are some kids trying to earn their living (or someone else's) by selling pirate editions of Lonely Planet guide books.
Obviously there is somewhere a picture of this from the reverse angle. If the gentleman to the left in the yellow shirt is registered with TE, please post your picture.

Really a funny photo but also a very good one, with the red details in the lower part of the picture forming a line to sort of frame the elephant.

Hello Gert. Daily life and humor. A wonderful picture. The elephant your large friend is thirsty. With a drink it is not done. As it seems, all have their fun. Very beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

A not common photo without doubt. The terrace is fast filled. A decisive moment indeed to photograph and I see that you are not the only one to immortalize this scene. Attractive look, interesting.
With all my friendships,

What a funny picture, my friend!
After all, this elephant have the right to drink a beer like everybody ! It is not happy because the door is too small, lol
Very well done. Please add your shot to the decisive moment category.

Very funny photo. I much wondered what happened afterwards. Did he get a drink ? or a fruit cocktail ? Did he go quietly away seeing he could not go in.
Are elephants usually wandering about quiety like this on the streets ?

A funny situation, close to unreal!
Maybe what's most amazing is the kids on the pavement being so cool in the shadow of the big animal...
A well composed presentation!
It's a pity the elephant isn't pink..!

After my trip to India, I was naturally attracted by this photo of an elephant ! I felt I didn't see enough of them : Only two :-( So I was pleased to see this one in your random photos !
I wonder what happened there with this elephant trying to get into the bar ! No one seems to panic anyway !
It's interesting to see the kids'activities under the arch made by the elephant's body.
Another eye-catcher is the other photographer ! I do wonder if he posted his photo on TE :-))
TFS and have a good evening.

does this happen often? no one looks terribly surprised!
the mention of babar (one of my favorites) brings a nice children's story feel to this photo, but in reality, i can only imagine the poor elephant's confusion...
what a moment to have captured. did the guy in the yellow shirt ever post his side of the story?

Hi Gert, this photo appeared as a random photo on you intro site. Very amusing the picture and your note. Many interesting details here, like the guy in yellow, who as I have read was not a TE-member :). The kids must know this. And a bit of red scooter on the left. I saw the elephants on the streets in India but never going to the bar.
In 2007 it was a fresh photo. I forgot that you were in Cambodia, or maybe I haven't known you yet in that time.
