Cambodia is a young country with a large proportion of kids, mostly living in poor, unhygienic conditions. But what amazed me constantly was their ability to smile and overcome all adversity. This mind you, is not a posed picture. The girl was enjoying herself as hundreds of visitors walked past her along the bridge across the moat surrounding the Angkor complex. I too was in a hurry to get to the Angkor basking in sunset but couldn't overlook this magical moment.
Angkor Wat is visually, architecturally and artistically breathtaking. It is a massive three-tiered pyramid crowned by five beehive-like towers rising 65 meters from ground level. Angkor Wat is the centerpiece of any visit to the temples of Angkor. At the apex of Khmer political and military dominance in the region, Suryavarman II constructed Angkor Wat in the form of a massive 'temple-mountain' dedicated to the Hindu god, Vishnu. It served as his state temple. The temple itself is 1 km square and consists of three levels surmounted by a central tower. The walls of the temple are covered inside and out with bas-reliefs and carvings.

Great pose, and I love the expression on this girl too! The girl is perfectly placed, with the pillars and railing providing a natural frame for her. Colour and clarity are fantastic too, so lifelike that it's like being there. Superb work!

What a wonderful image, I love how she looks so relaxed and the composition with the water in the background is excellent.
polter (7239) 2007-05-02 18:27
She makes me think of Mowgli as well. Was there in th ebook a chapter about a guardian of a treasure - jewels, coins and so on, hidden in an old jungla eaten holly town ? Or am I wrong ? Beaty shot - that girl in the architectural framing and saphire green of background. Love every detail of the photo and girl's expression especialy - brings me back into childhood of my own. Thanks. And greetings from distant Poland T.

Wanda1 (15142) 2007-05-02 23:42
This is a charming shot and quite funny with her pose and expression. I like your saturated colours and the way she is framed between the two pillars. I agree with you that Angkor Wat is absolutely amazing!
vincz (19113) 2007-05-03 3:47
Beautiful catch Sabyasachi. Colours are superb and compsotion is awesome. Incredible that this was not posed, you have a true magic to catch reality on the spot. The natural framing made by the stone baluster is fabulous, the green colour behind the gril fantastic. Right in my favorites.
isabela_sor (47748) 2007-05-03 3:49
Almost I can imagine you trying to get the best POV for this picture(By the way an excellent POV)The warm colors, the decor and your sweet model complete each other perfectly...the result another PERFECT PICTURE

Beautiful catch, Sabyasachi,
the somewhat bored pose is very original. Her look is another fine catch. Great colours.
feather (51130) 2007-05-03 11:54
Fantastic shot. I love the way she is slouching among the ruins looking bored I think. The reflections captured through the gap in the wall add a wonderful extra element to the scene.
riclopes (35577) 2007-05-03 13:12
Olá Sabyasachi, this is another amazing portrait of yours. I don't know how you do it, but you sure have the skill for it. And allways with very good notes. Make me think of a studied pose, but...it isn't. Very impressive and beautiful. Congratulations, once again!
With greetings from Lisbon,

Partha_c (2029) 2007-05-03 15:04
Hi Sabyasachi. I took time to look and relook at this marvellous shot of this kid with wonders in her eyes. The way she positioned herself with one hand holding the railing and the other resting the chin tells all about her relaxed mood. The water behind and the fading sunrays falling near her feet lazying on the road -- nothing got missed by you. Just beautiful. Hats off.
ribeiroantonio (22637) 2007-05-03 18:39
Is this a return to your own colour style? I like it. And I also like the beautiful composition. Well done.

Serendipity (1045) 2007-05-04 13:24
I like that composition, very good. The pose of that child is surprising and not common. Colors are very nice.
pablominto (53746) 2007-05-04 13:55
I think her kind of unusual pose is quite eye-catching, but then kids often find strange postures...
The rich colours are very attractive, and the view to the reflection of the greenery in the lake adds an extra dimension...
Xalkida (11744) 2007-05-04 14:34
Wow! How can you get these magnificent colors with this "small" camera? They are fantastic! Excellent pose for this little girl. A diamond as always!
siolaw (38292) 2007-05-05 1:53
Of course you didnt overlook this superb scene! and luckily for us!

Bonjour, cher Sabyasachi,
Je ne connais pas votre secret pour obtenir de tels résultats. Peu importe, la qualité de vos photographies est remarquable. Les sujets sont toujours choisis avec soin et brio.
Félicitations et merci de nous faire partager votre talent.
evanrizo (456) 2007-05-05 6:13
Hi my friend Sabyasachi, what an excellent photo!!!
It is really a superb composition, everything works wonderful here.
kiwi_explorer (12209) 2007-05-05 7:20
I like the way you put a lot to details in your posting. The color quality and clarity here is just superb. Rather than using a shallow DOF to isolate your subject, you use color contrast to do this ... very interesting. As usual an excellent composition from you. Have a nice weekend.
Cricri (123700) 2007-05-05 7:20
Belle expression et pôse de cette petite fille, superbe cadrage et couleurs, trés jolie
Have a nice weekend
sebinho342 (19317) 2007-05-05 14:46
Hi Sabya, what a pearl once again ... That seems so easy when we look at your gallery, you post so easily tremendous pictures, coloring is at its best, sharpness is amazing ... to say the truth, it seems that we ARE in the scene, not through a cam ... almost 'real' feeling. For sure the attitude of this little girl is the must on that.
So great :)
sothy81 (9630) 2007-05-05 16:48
This is such a beautiful shot. I love the colors and the exposure there. Her clothes have such a great texture there, plus beautiful colors. The BG colors are awesome. Well done
keribar (43841) 2007-05-06 3:03
A very very unusual shot of Angkor: Perhaps you were somehow lucky to find this kind of natural childish gesture, but surely you were quick to react before she unederstood she had her picture taken. I like it because of the natural and also because you can see it is teh entrance of Amgkor with the stone balconies, and the moat surrounding the complex. Good light with no harsh shadows also add to the beauty.
With good wishes from Istanbul - Izzet
teutza (10590) 2007-05-06 6:57

and this is another briliant shot!!

AiresSantos (56155) 2007-05-06 10:08
Magnificent picture with excellent colours and sharpness, Sabyasachi !
I like how you framed the picture and managed the light.
TFS and greetings from Portugal
kevinos (7517) 2007-05-06 11:43
You have found an unusual and delightful pose and have taken advantage of a great setting Sabyasachi. The child's expression is wonderfully natural and off guard. I like the way the colour of her dress is so bright against the somber colours of the stone and the cool greens. The framing of the pose with the gap in the balustrade is lovely, as is the positioning close to the left and top margins, allowing space to the right and below. She fits the space beautifully. It may seem like arrogance to make any criticism of a picture that has got 122 points, but I must be honest. I don't like the rust colour of the stone floor in the foreground. The hot red colour distracts from the wonderful colour of her dress and looks unnatural. It looks like it was produced by over burning of a burnt out foreground. I tried it in workshop and , in my opinion, this great picture look even better with that hot, rusty colour made neutral like the rest of the stonework. This allows the brightness of the dress to sing out against the cool neutral colours. Ether way it's a wonderful capture.
photographer123 (6246) 2007-05-06 12:15
I missed this shot...I dont know how?another wonderful shot...nothing to say about this shot..wonderful...well done...SUBIR
happypoppeye (4819) 2007-05-06 16:07
Great composition, color, detail and just about everything else. Really, really good. Great note also. I like the angle at which the girl is looking relative to the camera and her "pose" really looks great with the background.
pierrefonds (69763) 2007-05-06 20:47
A good portrait of this young child and of the reflection of the tree in the water, the photo has a good composition, DOF and nice colors. Have a nice day.
prezntime (3946) 2007-05-07 21:46
Again, in your incredible style...unmistakable. The colors are so rich and clearly of your design that you can be clearly called a one of a kind. Aside from the color, the scene is striking. The reclining girl against the strings of reflection...so pleasing. Not only that, but there is a complex geometry here; it makes for great viewing.
Angshu (56760) 2007-05-08 12:21
Amazing pose! Not posing for you...I wonder what she was dreaming at that time...but you've captured a magical moment. The contrast with the greens reflected in the baray behind, the framing through the balustrades...just perfect!
Scharan (14144) 2007-05-08 17:35
Lindíssima foto Sabyasachi...um trabalho excelente. Composição ótima e cores maravilhosas. Você registrou um momento raro de encantamento, beleza e naturalidade. Parabéns!!!
Steft (5975) 2007-05-08 18:23
Lovely photo! The colours are very rigde. The background give the photo a good depth and I like the way you composed the photo. I wounder what this girl was thinking. It's hard to say...
sayan (2617) 2007-05-10 2:11
The framing here is awesome. I have nothing to say about your portraits, I think I am not even qualified to comment on your works on portraits. The are so beautiful and so aesthetically accomplished, so its better to keep commenting on other aspects of this one. What I like most is the framing, then the little sun rays on the floor in front of the little girl - nice work.
jemaflor (101273) 2007-05-10 6:10
Superb shot, nice composition , great colour and interesting attitude, bravo !
eugeneahn (298) 2007-05-11 2:33
Fantastic portrait. Captured at such a wonderfully candid moment. So much beauty in this place where life is far from perfect. Your attention to all aspects of making the image -- subject, composition, color quality, social significance, etc. -- is impressive.
baba_flies (8829) 2007-05-11 10:57
Hello Sabyasachi! Isn't she something? All so natural and yet I find this young lady knows exactely how she has to "hang" around. You had the perfect model for this shot. I can only agree that you found a magical moment, better than any sunset :) All my best, Barbara.

Good morning Sabyasachi.
I observe this picture for 10 minutes and I try to find something not perfect. But everything is perfect.
The stone frame, the girl's position, the background, the frame...everything.
