Photographer’s Note

The Angkor and its surrounding temples is a photographer's delight as much for the beautiful architecture as for the human elements associated with it. Be it the Buddhist monks who flock to these temples or the little Cambodian kids selling all kinds of products, from Guide Books to souvenirs, they all make for nice subjects. I captured this little sales 'woman' as she took shelter from the opressive Cambodian Sun.
This incidentally is the Banteay Samre or the 'Citadel of the Samre' - a little isolated temple, just off the road to Banteay Srei. Constructed by Suryavarman II in the middle of the 12th century, the towers and balustrades of Banteay Samre bear strong resemblance to the main Angkor complex. This large, relatively flat temple underwent extensive restoration which transformed it into one of the finest monuments of the Angkor group and one of the most complete. Its ornamentation, exceptional in quality and very well preserved in its entirety, has become a pure specimen of the classic art from the finest period of Khmer architecture. Sadly however, probably due to the absence of any hype surrounding it, Banteay Samre has not attracted the kind of tourist it merits. On a October morning, we had the entire temple complex to ourselves (except for a few local Cambodian kids like the girl in this picture) for close to an hour.

You captured a great expression here Sabyasachi, and the soft top-lighting was perfect for bringing out her skin tones and giving catch lights in her eyes.
I like the inclusion of the pillar on the right, which seem typical of this Cambodian architecture.
I would have preferred a shallower depth of field to isolate the girl from the background a bit more, but I imagine you were probably shooting wide open anyway.

One of the things that really strikes me with this image and so many of your portraits is the stunning sharpness with which you capture your models while the BG is so nicely just oof. Your colours too are always amazingly bright!

You have a way with capturing children...the innocence comes puring from the photograph. The colors are very strong and the whole shot has a vibrancy that resonates from her eyes and smile. THe composition is well done with the pillar included in the photo with the young girl.

C'est un agréable portrait très expressif et même si le modèle est conscient de l'évènement elle ne pose pas vraiment mais essaye seulement de se montrer à son avantage (et y réussit). Le bel éclairage favorise la multitude des détails et des couleurs.

Simply great portrait. Have seen better bokeh, better composition, better color and sharper pictures but the combination of all the above is what makes this stand out. Great angle and great subject. So much for technical details.
