Lonely Monk at Angkor Photo

Photographer’s Note

I had spotted him from very far. He was sitting on the edge of the bank. Angkor, as visitors know, is surrounded by a moat, and photographers love to take reflections of the great temple. But here, the sun was gone and the dusk created some gradual gray tones on the water which I wanted to use as a background. Angkor was just behind me.

Hi izzet.
Orange against the blueish mist and water at the back. This is really nicely taken shot with a great contrast. I'm only bothered by the way his pose looks unnatural.

great shot izzet, love the subtle mood and atmosphere, the way the background just fades in contrast to the bright orange robes of the monk.

Hi Izzet, love how you have combined the stillness of the water with the calmness being projected by the young monk. His glare into your camera is somewhat puzzling, as I am not sure if he is just going along with being photographed or if it is an expression of being annoyed by your actions...?

Cette image est belle pour son cadrage et le regard intéressant du bonze qui semble détaché de ce monde. On se demande s'il s'agit d'eau ou de brumes.
L'effet est réussi.

I like shade off in the mist background... and the monk's bare head, there is a connection that I feel but I am not able to describe!! And of course is great the orange color in the middle of all this grey.

hello Izzet. Excellent portrait. I like this minimalist composition of water, stone and man... nothing else is needed, it is very effective... and the water brings a sense of calm... a serene atmosphere. excellent work.

le contraste tres doux de cette robe orange avec l'eau qui semble se fondre avec la couleur du ciel sur le haut de ta photo est extraordinairement beau! tu connais mon attirance pour ces moines et cette religion, alors ta photo ne pouvait me laisser indifférent! superbe image!

Il est certain qu'avec la couleur de sa robe et cet environnement brumeux, il devait être visible depuis très loin. Un beau portrait avec le regard profond de ce moine et l'arrière-plan gris et indéfini.
