Photographer’s Note
How was your trip ? "Don't know yet, I have not seen my pictures" This was a classical dialog when a photographer was back home. But gone are these days. We all know whether the trip was succesful with the digitals: I am starting today with a candid picture taken inside the grounds of a monastery-school and cemetary complex in Siem Reap. After taking a lot a of pictures of the great temples such as Angkor I wanted to spend a day with the local people. The place had nothing exciting. But then, the lateral evening light, and the smoke of burning leaves worked out a magic view. The girl was just passing by and I waited until she would cross some smoke: I would have preferred her 10 cms back. but this the only one I managed.

Bonjour Izzet,

Welcome back, Izzet. Well, according to this photo, it already seems that you had a productive and interesting trip. I like how you used the trees to frame this one, and how the light hitting the smoke creates the special ambience. Good timing to have the girl included. I also appreciate your note which in addition to being informative also shows your meticulous approach that I like.

To me, this is one of the rare and most successful photoghaphs in this site in term of description of the current life of Cambodia with its prure beauty.
I learn a big lesson from you through your note, "After taking a lot a of pictures of the great temples such as Angkor I wanted to spend a day with the local people." With that decision in mind and with the professional skills ready, your extending day has been paid off.
This should be in a photobook, or on big posters about "visiting Cambodia".
Thank you. I don't credit two points to you, but asking you if we could shake hand while taking my hat off.

Hi Izzet.
Could be a nice moment, with that light, the smoke, the depth and the composition.
But the schoolgirl adds a new dimension to the photo. The human touch is very important.

Extraordinary, Izzet! Love the mysterious quality, the smoke of burning leaves and this graceful young woman crossing amidst the light of the setting sun, all are wonderfully seen and captured. Do not concern yourself over 10 cms... I hardly ever get the scene just right, for people are thankfully not robots, they breathe and move, in and out of our frames, which is just the beauty of taking shots! Otherwise it would be a studio paradise, lifeless and petrified, imho.
Great work,

Hello Izzet,

Merhaba my friend Burak,
I didn't realize you were already back! (funny start of your note)
Great shot with the backlight and smoke giving a dramatic atmosphere. The girl passing by is very well positioned between the silluettes of the trees.
Regards,
Ricardo
p.s. - did you receive my cats?

Hello Izzet - 10cm back/forward doesn't matter this is perfect enough already, the backlighting, smoke, dirt road and scattered pagodas combine to create a wonderful tropical, exotic atmosphere. (I will also go digital on my next trip, I ordered a Canon 20D online, it should arrive before I leave)
