Photographer’s Note
We met this monk in Angkor Main-Temple.
I already had some shots of Angkor here.
He was so friendly and interested to talk with us.
He lives as a monk because so he gets a good school-training he couldn't pay for otherwise.
We also changed E-Mail adresses, you see, monks in Cambodia are modern.
It was a wonderful impressive hour, he told us so much of this life and family, so many sad stories, his sister died because she steped on a landmine while working on the field.
A land full of tears - one of the 10 most poor countries of our world!

Hi Wishnu,
I like the look of he bokeh, looks like some tapestry. I also like the noisy feel of the shot. The colors are great but I would still like to see this in b/w.

Hi Sabine,
sehr schönes Foto. Ich mag die körnigen Effekt, die Mischung von Schärfe und Unschärfe. Schöne Farben, vor allem das leuchtende Gewandt. Außerdem mag ich, wie der Mönch die Hand hält.
Beautiful image.

Good use of depth of field. Usually I don't like a lot of grain in color photos, but in this case, I think it adds to the mood.

gutentag sabine,
Nice to see you here again, when you had too this one with the tamron macro lens and your new camera, I think it was just perfect, now it is a little unsharp, but even I like the shot because you took it, and I know a little bit what you can. good job.

Hi,
Great shot! The monk seems so concentrated on the book he is reading. The conversation you had with him was certainly very interesting.

I couldn't resist your picture of a Theravada monk. Your note is lovely and explains the humanity of you picture. That is, it is of someone that you took the trouble to get to know and were interested in. Not just a photo opportunity. The pose is very interesting, you have caught the light on the face very well and the DoF is just right. I lovely picture, thanks, Kevin

Hallo Sabine!

Monks make good portraits, they are great subjects. I would be tempted to play with the levels to see some more details around his face. Well done

Kindlu accept my nsalutations. Attracted towards this unusual name;Wishnu Garuda. Being an Indian I know the deep meaning of this majestic and spiritual name.
I love the composition, the monk in the centre but overexposed pixels make noise.

I notice you posted this last image nearly 10 month ago, Sabine.
I too have stopped visiting this site frequently; TN takes most of my time and interest. Still, for the old time's sake, I post a picture once in a while. This year I exclusively hankered after wild life in India during my vacation and rarely went for pictures suited for this site.
Thanks for looking at my recent post here.
Your picture of this monk from Cambodia taken during your trip in 2005 shows him deep into his apparently theological studies. I like the graininess on the picture, somehow reminiscent of the movie "Siddhartha" based on a work by Herman Hesse as you already know.
However, my appreciation of your work is now solely restricted to TN, and happily so.
Regards,
Ram

this is interesting..and the note..i didnt think these fellows even made contact with the outside world
its a fine study of him studying
good lighting keeps him as the subject and blows out the background
although a portrait in essence it turns out to be a good candid
cheers

Hello Sabine. I like the way you "filled" the picure. It has great colours and you captured an interesting expression on his face.
