Hi everyone,

This guy amazed me with his great attitude towards life. He has accepted the shape he is in and seemed to have also accepted the sufferings in his life therefore he wasn't suffering anymore. In other words, he had his expectations in life firmly in control. I don't think that's the best solution for everyone but in his case was the perfect remedy to life challenges.

We had a great time together and as you can see he was willing to pose and show off his bike many beggars might only dream of owning one. After we parted, I remembered how sorry I felt for him at first but he took me to "school of life" and taught me a lesson. He thought me this: you don't need much to be happy. Like one of the emails a friend of mine sent me while ago which used a cup of coffee as a metaphor for life:

"Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change."...."Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it."

Be happy!
Skye

PS: I'm doing my part to be happy :) In a few hours I'll go camping until Monday :))) So if I don't reply to your comment's on time, sorry.. I'll do it when I get back.. cheers..

Hi Skye,
I spend some time in Phom phem, I feel so sorry for him and all the disabled beggars. Sometimes I feel so stupid when I complain about the everyday probs! Thanks for that pictures and thanks for your comment.
sorry no more points

Nice photo! I liked the angle you shot this from. I have also been to Cambodia & your picture reminds me of the beauty of the country & people, even in the face of great pain & suffering. Well done!

Hi Skye, I think I saw this guy down by the riverfront, but I certainly would not have taken a photo. But here I can see that you have taken this photo with great sensitivity. His eye contact with you is the proof.
Your low POV at his level is also touching, i can believe he was proud of that bike.
A very true note to accompany this powerful shot.

Your last 3 pictures are very impressive hard and real
I like the reportage you are doing on these people
The perspective is good , low like him and interesting.
His expression, the eye contact with you is very good too
The background is a bit too bright but not that important

Keep this work /series

Its good stuff

Ishai

Personal question: how easy for an American citizen to visit Iran now, according to the 2 sides' foreign policies? I heard that many of them sneakking in from the other countries: is this correct? Thanks.

hello Skye,
a beautiful and strong image,
good use of the wild angle who gives even more energy to the pic.
this smile is like a lesson ,thanks for sharing it.
Bravo.

Tom

Hi, Skye, It's one of those meaningful portraits we can count on you to catch and deliver. The wide angle dynamizing the wheels (and the image) is working perfectly as a metaphor and counterpoint to your note. this guy (or yourself actually) may have understood it's all in the journey, not the destination, and wheels are always symbols of forward movement, but also of the continuum of life according to asian philosophic credos. This dual idea of vehicle in space, then of life also, is aptly conveyed by making both man and wheel equal parts in the compo.

PS: I hope you had a happy thanksgiving.

haha. You sound exactly like me when I came back from S.E.A. :)
The trip really changed my life and I had the same life lesson as you (and probably many other open minded people who visit there). It is amazing how kind and happy people with nothing can be. Unfortunately it is much harder to find here in the States and Western culture but it seems to be more prevalent in S.E.A.

Great photo. I recognize that stip by the Tonle Sap right? Nice job. JP

Hi Skye,
great shot (this is what I have in mind for your wide angle Nikon shot while critiquing your bus picture) accompained by one of your greatest notes.
Hi and see you arround ;))

another great daily life shot. very well capture the life in this eyes.

Hello Skye, I love this picture of happiness in a sad situation. As you say the guy really looks like he has a great attitude. I love the perspective of this shot, from a low position with the big wheel in front. Many people would "look down" on people like this both metaphorically and literally when taking a photo. I'm glad to see that you're on the same level allowing this guy to be photographed with dignity. Great shot.

Good POV, your note is good. The choice of B&W is great.
Well done
Philippe

What a great deep meaningful smile here, full of hope, and life, great in B&W,for his deep smile could be posted in colors, too, still I like it very much, well worked and composed and nicely done,Skye,
Take care
Yours
M

Skye
Another great documentary picture which tells a story in its own right. Ian

I like this kind of your phots, Sky!
meaningful and powerful, and great in B/W.
Tanks for posting.

Happy new year :)
Amir

Hello Skye, your photo is just great. Not only the composition and the angle are perfect but you got what many people miss in portrait pics. You got close to the subject, not only physically but mentally. You got to know and understand him, so that is why the shot is so cool. Your note is also awesome, I am happy to have seen it and to have had the opportunity to read it. Thank you!
