Stung Meanchey series..

Hi everyone,
I know most of the pictures of my Stung Meanchey series have been very gloomy so far but there are many shining smiles and happy faces all over this place (well, mostly kids). I have to say I'm touched by this people's spirit and strength to smile so often under such circumstances. I've come to believe happiness is really internal once we have our expectations under control. I see them accepting life as it is and just work hard to make it better and in the meantime don't forget to laugh and be happy. I think this mentality is a treasure that many of us with much better economical condition lack and we are actually poorer than them in this sense.

Hope you like this..

Cheers,
Skye

Hi Skye,
what a shiny smile and great POV. I definitely agree with your note. I think also that are we to choose to be happy or not.

Hi Skye,
Tje smile on this face really shines over the gloomy environment. I really like the elongated frame which gives it an expanded panoramic feel to the garbage around. The texture of the ground is very well captured. An image which certainly makes us think about how lucky we are and how we complain too much of our little problems.
Regards, thanks for sharing
Daniel

Traveling half the globe then coming to this place to witness the condition of these poor people is far more difficult than sitting at home to critique. I believe it is thousand times more difficult to make them smile.
You have brought them the moment of happiness, Skye.

The above is my self-observation, not critique. I am not qualitied to do so in this line of photography.

Best regards,

GJ

Hi Skye:
The eye-disease wanted to knock me to the bed, but I must leave something about this picture before taking the double-dosage of Doxepin my doctor prescribed...

I start to detect a secret from your pictures: the smile. When I met miserable people, I had the tendency of recording their "miserable" faces. Now that I learn the "positive" attitude from you. The smile from this boy promises hope and happiness. Well, maybe happiness is what we believe it is, not what we are looking for...

I must think more about it. Thanks.

Thanh

Excellent photo, both technically and emotionally...
Only those who keep smiling will survive whatever happens. But I wish those kids were smiling carrying flowers.

Come on, Skye, tell us, the natl GEO has asked for double spread pictures with a title, in view of an article about this infamous place! ;-)

Tongue in cheek, but this is what comes to my mind with your "panoramic" shots. Did I say Nat GEO? This is all the good I think of your image taking in Stung Mancheay. A very expressive way, but pictorially, not as an alibi for drama, to bring out this smiling boy who has something to teach us. So do you!

Hello Skye,
A philosophical note and a great photo to illustrate it. I love the way you've captured this boy's smile and the use of the wide angle show us the environment he's living and working in. Very good cropping and soft colors too!
Regards, Brigitte

exellent shot, simple but beauty shot, I know this place well from Maciekda's photos, another exellent shot, well done

Hi Skye
I live in a rich country. I work and I've the possibility of
travelling. I have my own apartment and I can eat 3 time a
day but I'm rarely capable of making such a beautiful
smile... What a life lesson!! Great picture very well composed.
Regards
Quentin

Under any circumstance, when there is a smile, there is happiness. I read this in several books, and found to be true during my life.

Best wishes!

is this a boy, it looks like a girl, but either way, the kid has great facial expressions, I like the daily life shot and it is a shame
