Stung Meanchey series..

I was standing a few feet from this boy when I saw him finding a photo in the garbage and he took a few moment staring at the photo, so I asked him if I could see it. This was the last thing I was expecting to see in the city dump of Phnom Penh! A class room of some sort which seemed to be a western school with kids washed and groomed. Their condition was totally the opposite of these kids in the dump. So I asked him if he would keep the photo this way so I could take his picture. As you can see, he was very happy to comply.

As for the PP, I maybe offending the TE rule here but I take my chances. I thought this effect really fit this shot and is my first one.

Hope you like it..

Best Regards,
Skye

Hi
A really interesting picture but what did this picture there?!
I like your PP with colours only on the small picture and I
love the face of this kid! So proud, so happy! This image is
maybe not as sharp as your previous one but anyway really
beautiful.
Regards
Quentin

Very impressive portrait shot, good effect with the wide angle lens. I love his face, smile.
Great work
Regards

hi skye, kids face is great and the pp effect fits nicely to your composition and note but there's some strange effect on the contorns of the boy...
marta

very good color choice for this one Skye.

The note is great Skye, and the photo matches it in perfection. Great moment.

And i agree with you, the effect works.

Mario

What a great expression of joy! Very nice image, great POV.

Skye, you're absolutely right that this is a special case that justifies stretching the TE standard about PP. It just works too well for this image!

Nice that this boy is lucky enough to have great teeth despite poverty.

Regards, Ken.

Yes, this picture is very nicely done like the rest of your Stung Meanchey series.

Cool idea!! I spent a while staring at the second photo- its like something I could pull out of my mom's family snapshot boxes. Its an everyday photo inside a well composed artistic photo- just a cool concept. For a while I thought the kid's head was all stretched out- but I figured the hat out. :)The black and white really brought out the detail of the boys shirt- good choice. Great work!
Rosie

I really like the PoV, you made him into a towering man, very nice, and with a lot of dignity. I am not a big fan of the small photo in color, I fell that it detracts from the boy, who is great on center stage.

a side note: when the school of this boy's reality (which I hope happens sooner than later) looks like that little photo, is when some people will complain that Cambodia has become too "westernized" and curse "globalization." just a thought.

Beautiful B&W portrait.Good accent to photography of class with colours.Nice motive and idea.Bravo!

Hi Skye,
great shot. Ooooooooooohhh what a happy boy. It's that kind of smile that' s contagious.

what do you mean abour offending TE rules?

I spent a month in cambodia. You must go to these countries to imagine, how happy they can be, just to be alive, owning nothing.

I'm not a PP fan but in this case, it works just perfectly. A good documentary shot. Nice smile and pov also.

Great Job!
This picture made me think deeply.
A boy whose dream is more colorful than his real life. On the other hand, He looks happier than those in photo.

Thanks
