Photographer's Note

I thought that this image was a bit of fun. The woman is selling fried spider as a snack. They are a type of tarantula and about the size of your palm. The market by the roadside in Skuon sells a variety of uncooked and cooked meats, vegetables, eggs etc. but it is the spiders that draws the tourists. This tourist not only showed a lot of interest, he actually bought one to eat. You can probably guess that I didn't.

Skuon is in the Kampong Cham Province of Cambodia and on a highway that connects Phnom Penh with Siem Reap. The town is also known as 'spiderville' for obvious reasons. Spiders are eaten in other places in Cambodia but Skuon seems to be the centre for the breeding of (or foraging for) these spiders.
