Photographer’s Note

All French people know the actor Alain Delon, very famous during the 60's and 70's, but now getting small parts here and there. He is more known nowadays for talking about himself at the 3rd person... He would say: "Alain Delon is the greatest actor in the history of the movie indutry"!... but nobody knows he is also selling cigarettes under his name (I think they are only avalaible in Cambodia!!!)
Cambodia has probably the cheapest cigarettes in the world... for a US dollar you get 4 packs of 20 ... Five packs of twenty to the Euro!!!
I think this billboard is too big for that place...
Taken from the 'Japanese bridg' one of the 2 bridges crossing the Tonle Sap river...

Nul besoin de présenter Alain Delon aux francophones... mais ce que l'on sait moins, c'est que ce monsieur vend des cigarettes sous son nom... sans doute seulement au Cambodge, et qu'il 'participe' a l'installation de monstres architecturaux et publicitaires comme celui de la photo!....
J'ai trouvé ce panneau un peu démesuré par rapport au quartier...
Le prix des cigarettes au Cambodge est assez étonnant quand on vient d'Europe... pour un Euro on vous en donne 5 paquets de 20!(4 paquets pour un dollar US)

Image prise a Phnom Penh, depuis le 'Japanese bridge' construit, comme son nom l'indique, par le Japon, un des deux ponts enjambant le Tonle Sap...

This is a very good photo Laurent. I like how you contrast the glory of life style with the Tast of France, and the reality of Cambodian lifestyle. It is a pretty innovative picture from Cambodia. I like that. Sothy

Salut Laurent,
Alain DELON vieillit mal. Tous ses rares derniers films sont d'une bien mauvaise facture, sans ambition artistique. Il a eu une vingtaine d'années mythiques avec une filmographie exceptionnelle que personne ne pourra lui enlever (Le Samouraï, Rocco et ses frères, le Guépard, Plein Soleil, Mélodie en sous-sol, Le cercle rouge, Monsieur Klein...) et puis il s'est laissé aller en tournant avec Jacques DERAY une série de films policiers d'action où le culte du flic violent sert de principale fil narratif, une déception.
Ici, il se fait du fric facile dans la vulgarité en associant la France avec le tabagisme, ce n'est pas glorieux. Et pourtant, c'est un acteur que j'aime tellement dans les films que je t'ai cités, j'en ai oubliés certainement.

Ah, je m'en vais, en préférant continuer de rêver à ses vieux films de Jean-Pierre MELVILLE que j'apprécie tant et vite oublier cette publicité que tu as bien fait de dénoncer.

Hi Laurent. The contrast between the scene on the billboard and the scene below it is what catches my eye the most, they are worlds apart. I guess whatever it takes to sell cigarettes! Well captured and thanks for sharing.

Je partage la réprobation devant une publicité si ostensible pour la consommation de tabac, même si c'est celui d'Alain Delon. On a caricaturé l'homme pour des propos maladroits, mais il y a malheureusement pire que lui.
L'image est utile pour l'information, et est aussi une bonne photo.

tu fait de la pub pour delon maintenant,dans un pays ou déjà ils ont du mal à vivre si en plus on leur donne le moyen de mourir,, mais icic'est plutot le contraste de cette grande affiche au milieu de ces petites maisons qui frappe l'oeil, c'est bien vu

Assez impressionnnant le contraste entre ce panneau publicitaire et les modestes habitations qu'il surplombe. Une belle réalisation avec de très bonnes couleurs!!

Une vue "très asiatique", urbanisation chaotique, motos, verte partout, terre orange... et un "outdoor" gigantesque très moderne en apparence qui utilise des images de marque de France pour vendre des cigarettes... J'aime bien l'air candide et le touche d'humeur, mais la compo et clarté sont aussi très bien.

This huge billboard in small place shows how cigarette producers plays with their size of advertisement for showing their power to the customers. Big billboard, big company maybe. But they are really interesting especially under development or undeveloped countries due to healthy restrictions in developed countries. Quel contraste entre l'affiche publicitaire où l'on peut voir aussi les quelques fameux monuments parisiens et ces habitations dont la plupart sont recouvertes de tôles ondulées. pleins de détails à découvrir sous une lumière chaude.

Delon et autres "stars" françaises du grand écran s'exportent bien en Asie, comme des produits de grandes marques. y a pas de petits profits...
Ce panneau publicitaire littéralement planté dans ce bidonville de la capitale cambodgienne est en outre le reflet de la mondialisation de l'économie ; "vous êtes pauvres, mais on vous vend du rêve à la française" semble dire en substance ce panneau.

Cette photo est une photo reportage tout à fait dans l'esprit de TE. Le contraste entre cette publicité et les maisons dessous est saisissant. J'aurais préféré une autre image pour le goût de la France surtout quand chez nous il est écrit sur tous les paquets de cigarettes : "Le tabac tue".
