It is time to come back to my unfinished Cambodian series. And what better place than the famous ruins of Angkor Wat. Two monks take a walk down the long corridor that leads to the Angkor temple, as a tourist takes rest after a hectic day of sightseeing, framed through those massive stone rails. This incidentally was on my very first evening at Angkor.
The visual impact of Angkor Wat, particularly on one's first visit, is awesome. As you pass through the outer gate and get your first glimpse, its size and architecture make it appear two dimensional, like a giant postcard photo against the sky. After you cross through the gate and approach the temple along the walkway it slowly gains depth and complexity. Angkor is a massive three-tiered pyramid crowned by five beehive-like towers rising 65 meters from ground level. Angkor Wat is the centerpiece of any visit to the temples of Angkor. At the apex of Khmer political and military dominance in the region, Suryavarman II constructed Angkor Wat in the form of a massive 'temple-mountain' dedicated to the Hindu god, Vishnu. It served as his state temple. Nearly 2000 distinctively rendered apsara carvings adorn the walls throughout the temple and represent some of the finest examples of apsara carvings in Angkorian era art.
You can see other pictures in this series here.

Veri good picture of the famous temple and good you back to Angkor because I plan this year to visit Cambodia and also Vietnam. The framing is veri good.
Abraço,
Lucas

Hi Sabyasachi, that's a creative low POV, the orange clothes of the monk stand out well, and the tourist is definitely part of daily life these days there... Regards, Daniel

hi Sabyasachi
is like to different worlds there are meeting under that stone rails .
great shot.thanks for your great picture.
congratulation
anes

Hello Sabyasachi,
A well captured scene of daily life at one of the world's major tourist attractions. Good framing through this massive archway and nice juxtaposition between the resting tourist and the two passing monks.

hi sabyasachi

monks + angkor = 100 points!! it's the te way..

no, you are right. a first visit to angkor is very surreal. as you step over the threshold and along the path to the main temple, you get a strange feeling of depth and history. it's same in the forbidden city and other famous, historical sites. to me, the sky is on the verge of blowing out, but it has also created a very nice semi-silhouette. a strong composition really. well done

Hey Sabya, I think Anes has raised a very valid point regarding the contrast in lifestyle and culture of the monks and the western tourist. Even the picture is so contrasty with the monks robe standing out against the stones works. The low POV is terrific.

First of all, I like the use of the overhead beam to give some interet and weight to the upper part of the frame, as well as to provide a natural frame for the people. Nice contrast between the monks and the tourist. Great work!

hi sabyasachi
it's very cunning to frame monks an tourism through this arch, it make a big frame and improve The stage setting.

best regards

Hi,
Its a great shot. Excelley positioned the monks.Nice angle of view and a very clever use of the front frame.
Great way of representation.

Great POV and extraordinary nice composition, selam....

Hello Sabyasachi,
interesting perspective... This photo could be called "The power of colour", because the orange clohts of the monks become visible very strongly from the background. Good composition with the ruins.
Best regards,
Andrzej

I like this one very much. The tourist, sitting in a slumped position, looking a bit jet-lagged ;-), makes a very interesting contrast to the two monks, walking and with very upright backs. You nicely framed the whole scene with the guard rail. Oh and the two palm trees are also an interesting detail, repetition of the two monks? Great portfolio.

Hi Sabyasachi,
Beautiful bright colors and fine details to the temple arch which adds wonderful depth to this photo. The brightly clad monks looks fresh comapred to the well worn tourist.
Regards, Tom

Hi Sabyasachi,
Your framing here is really outstanding, with the massive stonework dramatic and contrasting vividly with the orange robes of the monks. The tired tourist sitting there really provides perfect counterbalance here. A very fine capture...later.

Your POV is as always greaet here. The contrast is the main point in this photo in my opinion. Contrast in every sense - the difference in lifestyle of the western tourist and the monks and the contrast in colour. Good work.

exellent colours and contrasts, very well natural framed and the turist against monks...exellent job
regards, m.

I like the POv with the monks waking t]in this ancient place. The turist guy there was a little strange. I like and dislike he there. I like because shows a diferent part on the place. Dislike because it disturb a little the temple santuary place...

But it is a good photo anyway. the colors are nice and very sharp too.

Thanks
andre

Dear Sabyasachi
I would have to say that this is not up there with your best ones, but this is a creative POV for sure...I remembered this gap well as I had sneaked in through it from the causeway to the grasses. Quite a contrast between the monks & the resting tourist, in more ways than one, seen through the frame within a frame.
Best Wishes
Angshuman

Hi Sabyasachi. Great photo. I love the framing and the contrasting colours of the monks against the background. The tired tourist is a good focal point also. Well informed and interesting note also. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers. Paul.

Hi Sabyasachi,

Very interesting and well-taught point of view, using the structure for framing your scene.

The monks are really «attention-magnet» with almost glowing orange robes. I like the way they stand out from the background and the great impact they create, even if they are relatively small in the image.

Very creative shot. Nicely done!

One of your strongest shots as the composition and low POV really work well here.

The frame within a frame concept is interesting and well seen here.

Great Job.

Hi Sabyasachi,

I like the POV na dcomposition here putting in contrast the 2 monks and the turist. The sky does not add much. I guess a B&W or partial dessaturation would work better here once the bg colors are not essential.

Cheers,

Flavia

Olá Sabyasachi, excellent framing, with a nice visual impact. The monks are a an excellent adiction, of course. Because of the attractive orange color, the other tourist is almost unnoticed. The image seems a bit tilted to the left, but I assume that you left it on purpose, which I think it works well. Congratulations for the creative composition.
With greetings from Lisbon,
ricardo
