I had been wandering around the bustling Psar Thmay market at its hectic best, searching for photo opportunity. Spotted this market vendor from a distant that I was very much drawn by her face & emotion who seemingly unaware of my lens. A split second of time shot followed by concentrating on her eyes when she was momentarily distracted and hoping the rest followed.
I was overwhelmed by a sea of humanity at this market – the activity, colors, sounds and smells, indeed a fun place to just explore thru or to people watch.
Please view workshop image on what she'd got to offer
A 'krama' is a sturdy traditional Khmer head scarf with many uses, including as bandanna, to carry children, to cover the face and for decorative purposes. It is worn by men, women and children and can be fairly ornate though most typical kramas contain checked patterns of some sort and traditionally come in either red or blue.
WS: Bon appetit, some yummy crawlie stuff for lunch!

This reminds me of the scene in the movie Titanic, where the camera focuses on the eyes of the young girl, zooms in and when it zooms back out it is the older woman. The womans eyes here have a real shine to them, and I feel I can see her younger beautiful self gazing through. The light has created beautiful shadows in the lines of her face and that excellent glint in the eye.
Time waits for nobody... Great image, thanks as always for sharing

Hello dear friend
your shots bring your stamp
you present to us portraits
executed showing delicate and nice
what is she thinking of?who nows?
the light has created beautiful shadows
and her eyes have a hidden secret

Her thoughts must have been floating very far off, considering she gave you enough time to find this perfect lighting and sharpness without noticing you. Being a market-lady is probably often very boring, allowing a lot of time for thinking between the customers. Unknowingly she poses perfectly. This is a very impressive photo.

powerfull portrait of this wrinkled old woman, so sharp on her eyes (the white dots in them gives life) and with a small DOF allowing the background to become a bokeh which color is in accordance with the lady's skin color.

For some reason, portraits are not my cup of tea. Probably because it is more difficult to catch people just right, like this photo does. Well done! The WS photo of the dish she's offering is interesting. I would probably give it a try.

Hi abmdsudi dear
This is a very good portrait. Look attractive and nicely detailed figures are shown. Very good resolution. Congratulations and thanks for recording this nice picture
ourania (49961) 2014-07-30 8:09
another superb portrait, full of spontaneity, intensity and interest. It seems that the lady has just looked up, her gaze is intense and mysterious, the fact that we don't know what caused it makes us rely on our imagination. I like very much the tight composition, her shoulder and scarf frame her face effectively and along with the warm light and fine definition, make her expression even more captivating. Dark and lucid reflections in her eyes are superb. The workshop picture has mesmerizing colours and surprising graphism. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
ikeharel (76297) 2014-07-31 0:45
Yes, her eyes says it all, a special look she had given while saw you with the camera - a look I cannot decipher, but with a strong impression.
Well done photojob, you have the touch for taking portrait of many people - something I yet to learn, or skill myself to.
fritzi007 (11904) 2014-08-01 16:08
very good photo, a masterpiece, quality and information congratulate you!
willperrett (11712) 2014-08-03 3:03
What a portrait! It certainly is all in the eyes, and those eyes don't seem to be very happy to see your camera. Although on a second viewing, maybe she isn't looking quite in your direction. I note that this is shot on 200mm lens. I wonder how close you were and whether this is the full frame, or a crop?
siolaw (38292) 2014-08-08 4:14
Excellent portrait in superb light, with special mention for the shine in the eyes and also the well cropped tight framing.
I add it to my "Cambodian kroma" theme!
berek (50506) 2015-10-22 22:51
I see you're down on the lawn to have a better perspective on this beautiful castle. It was worth it because you can see it as a whole. Damage to the road sign.
