Photographer’s Note
Followers of the religion of Islam make up less than one percent of the predominantly Buddhist population of Cambodia. Roughly 80% of Cambodia’s Muslims belong to the Cham ethnic group.
There are two types of Muslims in Cambodia. The two groups include: Sunni, traditional Muslims, along the lines of Arab Muslims, who pray five times per day, and Fojihed Muslims, who follow an ancient Cham interpretation of the religion. They only pray once a week. They speak Cham, and keep the old Cham traditions.
The little girl was coming out of a Mosque and I made her happy when I came back few days later to give her picture...

This shot was taken the day we arrived in Phnom Penh. We did come to the Lake side the same late afternoon and saw a mosque near by although we almost got lost there.
The girl wearing pink is very lovely in this strong light that forces her eyes to be kept good for the camera and she has done well for this pose. You know how to highlight her feature by choosing a good bg color for this portrait work.
The look tells that she is comfortable with your camera. Good work.

Bonsoir Marilyn
A superb head & shoulders portrait, of the small Muslim girl, with the pink hajib. Unusual indeed, to see Muslims in Cambodia. I'm wondering if the 'Cham' described, are the same people that developed a civilisation in neighbouring Vietnam, & attacked Angkor Wat near Siem Reap, in the 12th century?

Salut Marilyn,
Une expression de visage bien saisie avec le regard vers nous.
Bonne netteté sur le visage. J'aurais peut-être augmenter encore la vitesse sous cette très dure lumière.
Amicalement,

Hello Marilyn,
You have chosen a simple and coloured BG which I think is really good for a portrait. It does not distract us from looking at the main subject. Her expression is natural under the harsh light with excellent sharpness and details, though some may be concerned about shadows for a portrait. Good work

Dear Marilyn,
I looked long at this picture and wondering about the background. How i love that left part, so soft and smooth, while on the right side the marble brings also great contrast and gives it a very natural look. But both backgrounds don't work together, so how to deal with it....no that easy.
But the girl, so wonderful, so smooth, so innocent and look at those skintones, truly wonderful with perfect lights on her cheeks while other parts are in the shade...
Middle of the day, must be hard light, but still the result looks very good....you did well here, i like such portraits.
I never saw Cham people in Cambodia, only in Vietnam (one pic here on TE), but the woman with there veils look very beautiful and very inspiring for making a nice portrait.
Regards,
Henk
