Getting around in Phnom Penh Photo

Photographer’s Note

In Phnom Penh the traffic is extremely chaotic but luckily the Cambodians drive quite slow...
A nice way to visit the city is by hiring a cyclo.
But, don't expect the cyclo-men to understand any English.
An interesting, but scary feature of the Phnom Penh cyclo is the brakes... See a handlebar behind the driver... he has to pull this in order to come to a halt!!!

Eh ben... pas très rassurant tes explications sur le système de freinage et heureusement que tu dis qu'ils ne vont pas vite !!! En tous les cas la petite famille devant ne semble pas y faire cas. Une jolie et intéressante composition, j'aime beaucoup la finesse architecturale de l'arrière plan et les couleurs douces de l'image. La netteté est fort appréciable. Merci Marilyn.

Voilà toute la petite famille partie en balade. Un moyen de transport qui permet une visite de la ville de manière tranquille. Le bâtiment en arrière plan à une belle architecture élégante et colorée.

la lumiere est excellente, ni trop forte ,ni trop faible elle exalte cette scene de vie quotidienne au detail croustillante qu'est le systeme de freins sur ce genre de transport.

ta photo me fait penser beaucoup a la même avec la mobylette ici c'est un tricycle mis en valeur par une lumiére géniale, manque juste l'effet de filet, mais c'est tellement net que c'est magnifique

Bonjour Marilyn,

C'est une bonne idee de meler un element architectural avec une scene de vie quotidienne. Belle nettete et belle lumiere de fin d'apres-midi. Un peu dommage qu'on voit peu le visage du le garcon et la femme.

Note interessante aussi. Le frein est vraiment intrigant. C'est comme ca sur tous les cyclos?

I know I should try this mode of transport but I did not :( and now you reminded me of what I missed. It is always special when things like this one cannot be found in Malaysia yet found common in Cambodia. The thing special is the seat of the cyclist is always higher [any good reason?] and it is even more funny when the cyclist has short legs. This one is relatively tall for the bike. Good shot of daily life in warm light! This was also the day we left Cambodia.

Hello Marilyn,
A very interesting observation that led you to this wonderful composition, leaving plenty of space before the cyclo. The choice of BG is good too, slightly blurred to retain sufficient details and allow the eyes to focus on the main subject-the cyclo which is super sharp. I certainly would not try this (with that kind of brake) on the streets of Phnom Penh, knowing how chaotic it is.

J'avais remarqué depuis longtemps la dangerosité de ce système de freinage... pour freiner, il faut lâcher le guidon et tirer le levier derrière soi vers le haut... autant dire, impossible de s'arrêter... heureusement ils speedent pas trop!
Tu as bien surmonté l'obstacle du toit du temple, grâce a un recadrage habile! Les elements sont bien positionnees et lumiere et couleurs sont très agréables, et la netteté top...

Un joli cliché d'une voyage dans un taxi très originel, au moins pour nos yeux. Il y a une sense de tranquillité si asiatique qui fait difficile de penser aux risques posés par le système de freinage. J'aime bien le cadrage, la lumière chaude et l'architecture charmante du fond.

C'est une très belle photo. La lumière est parfaite sur l'édifice et sur ce moyen de locomotion. Le système de freinage donne le frisson, heureusement que la circulation est plutôt lente !

Nice daily life shot...the light is excellent here, almost pastel in hues..I found the rickshaws to be quite different from what we have in India...the rickshaw man is not a puller, but a pusher here..Well placed, the rickshaw in front of the ornate structure. Good work!
