Photographer’s Note
I have mentioned about the water village in my earlier postings but here is the shot of these villages. It was taken on top of a hill along Residency Road.
These villages are in existence for at least 600 years and the 30.000 inhabitants live on these stilt houses equipped with markets, mosques, schools, medical clinics, police and fire stations. Boats or water taxis as they are called are therefore the most popular and efficient mode of transport to negotiate the village waterways. Most of the villagers are fishermen but a growing number of the younger generations who excelled in their studies are holding posts in government offices and the business sectors. Many have opted to move and live on land. Fire have also reduced the size of these villages throughout the years and many locals and inhabitants are wondering what is going to happen in the future and the fate of these water village.

Excellent shot, Aloysius. You have opened my eyes once again. I had no idea such entire villages existed on water like that. Great shot, too, I like all the colors and horizontal lines. Best, Matt
