| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Prayer flags are colorful panels or rectangular cloths often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside or for other purposes.
There are two kinds of prayer flags: horizontal ones, called lung ta (meaning "wind horse"), and the vertical Darchor, seen here in the background. "Dar" translates as "to increase life, fortune, health and wealth", "Cho" translates as "all sentient beings".
Traditionally, prayer flags come in sets of five, one in each of five colors. The five colors represent the elements and the Five Pure Lights and are arranged from left to right in a specific order:
Blue/white (symbolizing sky/space)
White/blue (symbolizing water)
Red (symbolizing fire)
Green (symbolizing wind/air)
Yellow (symbolizing earth). |

Hi Alan,
great graphical shot and POV. Excellent colours and sharpness. Light is very well managed. TFS

Incidentally I commented on another photo of the same subject the other day and here, your note is a very timely/wonderful follow-up. In your photo, I love the way diagonal lines crossing - flags nicely blown and spread - every element beautifully included, but I find the color and sharpeness level too strong. That must be how strong the sun was there but for me, a little tone down might be more pleasant.. -K.
