Paro Dzong is the centre of civil and religious authority in the Paro valley in western Bhutan. There is nothing that looks like a city in this valley, just a one street village with a few shops and restaurants. People's houses are scattered here and there in the valley, a few gathered around the dzong above.

The Dzong was built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and was used to defend Paro valley from invasions by Tibet. It is also known as Rinpung Dzong; which means “ Fortress on a Heap of Jewels”. It survived an earthquake in 1897 and was severely damaged by a fire in 1907, but was rebuilt the following year. Many scenes from the 1995 film Little Buddha were filmed in the Paro Dzong. Every year a Tsechu is held at this Dzong in honour of Guru Rinpoche.

Salut Vincent,

Bonne journee,
Jean-Yves

Wow, this looks like a great place. It is a wonderful picture with good colurs and full of human life. Well done.

bonjour Vincent
Pascale

This POV really shows how the Dzong dominates the area around; it is huge compared with the surroundings. Good light and colours of an interesting place.
Kath

good choice to include the people for scaling. It must be very impressive to be there. Very well captured
Best wishes,

Bonjour Vincent,

Bonjour Vincent

I like the repetition of the hillside house at left of the amin fg monastyery. A wonderful daily life & landscape scene with god sharpness & colour.

Bravo

This part of world is me unknown, I'm glad that you write a note.
Your picture is very lovely and very instructive for me. I like the architecture of the buildings. Thanks for sharing.

Have a nice weekend,

This makes a great postcard about Bhutan. A very nice color contrast and good lighting one. It shows also typical architecture of Bhutan. What's a beautiful place you exposed to. Well done. Sothy

Hi Vincent,
You caught this in excellent light, with good depth that shows the steepness of the slope. The people walking in the foreground warm and enhance. This is a fascinating part of the world. Thanks for the fine note...later.

My friend vinc,
Thank you for sharing another paradise on earth, so peaceful and easy!

Hi Vincent, lovely peaceful composition with splendid architecture, great colors, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Salut Vincent,
Bon week-end,
JB.

Hi Vincent,
Fascinating and full of life image I like the beautiful architecture details and the amazing environment. The composition is spectacular, clarity is excellent. Splendid impression, I like it. Have a nice weekend

Bonjour, cher Vincent,
Philippe

Greetings Vincent.
I have not viewed a photo from Bhutan before. The scene you have presented is one of tranquility, reinforced by your interesting notes. The large building is unusual but impressive, yet despite its size it seems sympathetic to its natural setting. The person walking across the scene with the baby adds to the serenity of the atmosphere. Good exposure of the colours and light.
Regards,
Andrew

Bonsoir Vincent,

Hi Vincent, beautiful view of the palace, with excellent light, colours and quality too.
thanks, ciao

the palace dominating the village looks amazing indeed... beautiful daily life scene with all the children playing and without caring for the gigantic structure above them... good job vincent...

cheers

Bhutan is high on our list, so this photo and note are particularly useful! This picture gives a strong sense of dominance, with the dzong in sunlight and the mountain behind it in shadow. The few people scattered around add color and scale.

(I would have chopped down that tree in the way, though! ;-) )

In this period I'm planning next year's travels and this country is for sure one of the candidates and seeing such a nice pictures from there, enhances the wish to visit it asap. Great perspective and very good compo with the few persons in the fg. to add scale and life to the photo. Very effective one! Tfs and best wishes.

Exotic, interesting palce in a fine setting as shot from the low pov Vincent. I also like here the inclusion of the persons on the plain adding life to the compo.

Bonsoir Vincent,

Sympa, donc...

Faboulos place. Excellent note. Great photo.

Quel bel environnement !
Superbe...

Peaceful is certainly the right word to describe the Paro Valley, Vincent - in fact I would have to guess that Bhutan would surely take the title of the most peaceful country in the world. I like how the sunlight is highlighting the dzong and providing such a dramatic contrast against the mountainside in the background which doesn't have so much light on it. Cheers . . . David
