[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Dzongs and most monasteries in Bhutan have an annual religious festival, the largest of which is called Tsechu. It is believed that those who attend the tsechu gain merit. When the festival day comes all who want to participate put on their best suits, jewellery and shoes. The children get presents. All kinds of fun activities, some gambling and a small fair take place around the dzong or monastery. In the dzong, everything is about a series of dances, called cham, in Honor of Guru Rimpoche. It is a 12-episode dance drama that everybody who have been there before know by heart but watch it over and over again with the same excitement of the first time.
I took this photo inside the dzong when dances were taking place. As the weather is very hot and the dances last quite long time, most people are very tired and took refuge under shadows.
