Spring is a very good time to see Punakha dzong in its full splendor with the violet jacaranda trees in bloom all around it.

Punakha Dzong was built at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (male) and Mo Chhu (female) rivers (chhu means river) by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1637. The construction of the Dzong was foretold by Guru Rimpoche, who predicted, “…a person named Namgyal will arrive at a hill that looks like an elephant”. If you look closely at the two hills behind the dzong on the left hand side, and if you have some imagination, you may indeed be able to recognize an elephant lying on the side, the hill in the front being the head, the one in the back the body.

Until the sixties, Punakha was the winter capital in Bhutan due to its more temperate climate. Since then Timphu, which was the summer capital, has been made the only capital of Bhutan.

Salut,
L'architecture du Butthan me semble fascinante.

very beautiful building, with lovely ornamentation
excellent capture, Vincent

Hi Vincent
Although my imagination didn`t wake up yet (I can`t see the elephant), the place with this building is beautiful. Great colours and light. And of course great architecture.
Regards

Hi Vincent. Beautiful building, beautiful trees and beautiful photo. I love the composition and you timed this shot well to capture such a wonderful sky. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to show us this exotic country. Another beautiful photo in series. Really well done. Regards.

Hello Vincent
You are pretty lucky, from what i have heard, not many people get to go to Bhutan!.
This palace is extremely beutiful, and the purple trees in the foreground underlines it further.

Hi Vincent,

The violet Jacaranda trees in bloom around it building make this picture very attractive, but also the building with specially roofs gives a excellent composition, the white clouds at the sky above the mountain are lovely. Very well done!

Have a nice weekend,
John.

Bonjour Vincent,

Magnifique vue.

Hi Vincent,
A good view of this amazing building. I like the extra splashes of colour of the purple flowering trees. Nice and sharp.

Salut Vincent,

Jean-Charles

Hello Vincent!
Very beautiful place and good perspective! I like to change a little bit your picture, I hope you don't mind.

Hi Vincent,
wonderful scene and wonderful colours, especially the purple trees. I like it very much, but on the other hand it lacks of contrast for my taste. Anyway wonderful!
Have a nice weekend,
Tomi

Salut Vincent,
Amicalement,
Marilyn

I don't think my imagination is up to the job of visualising the elephant, but never mind it is another interesting and well composed image from Bhutan. I think there is a lack of sharpness, easily remedied, but the architecture is beautiful and those purple trees add a wonderful extra splash of colour.
Kath

Bonjour, Vincent,
Amicalement,
Josep

Hi Vincent,
A fascinating shot of this ornate structure which, as your note indicates, does seem to be dozing in full splendour. The jacaranda trees really enhance and add to the beauty. The rugged terrain surrounding seems to overwhelm this place and enhance its appeal as a sanctuary from the elements. Well captured and have a good week.
John

Hi Vincent,
The Dzongs of Bhutan are most impressive and I love the way you have captured this with the river in the FG and the hill in the BG. But its the violet jacarandas that add that extra spalsh of colour giving it a distinctive character.

Hi Vincent,
fantastic architecture and the purple trees make the show.
Regards, Gerrit

Your POV is good and has led to a nice angle and good perspective. Love the colours, particularly those of the trees in front of the building. Nice work.
Best wishes
Mark

Vincent,
Bravo!
Thanks for sharing.
Vincent

Hello Vincent,
Very good pov over this interesting and, for me, unusual architecture. The domes on the building seem to echo the background hills. The jacaranda trees in full bloom are a beautiful bonus. Very good colours and definition.

J'aime beaucoup

Hi Vincent, wonderful architecture well composed in your photo, great light and colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Vincent!
Ii's a beautiful architecture, looks so oriental. Althought it's situated in the centre of the photo, the river makes it nicely balanced.
Well done!

Hi Vincent,
I really like the way you've captured this famous & historic building with the jacaranda in bloom and the great puffs of clouds peeking out from the mountains, Well-done!!
Wishing you health, love & joy (HLJ) in your travels this year, Pat

heavily reminiscent of all the far east..the architecture and the colour scheme..
excellent viewpoint gets all the building in with a suggestion of remoteness in the hills
lovely tones in the trees break up the line of the foreground
cheers
geof

Hi Vincent - simply amazing, ao exotic and well maintained, the jacarandas add extra beauty.

Bonjour Vincent.
