The Paro tsechu in spring is a major attraction in Paro district. People come from neighbouring districts to participate in the festivity. The town buzzes with visitors dressed in their finery enjoying markets, an open-air cinema and of course thefocal point of the tsechus are the sacred Cham Dances.
These costumed, masked dances typically are moral vignettes, or based on incidents from the life of the 9th century Nyingmapa teacher Padmasambhava and other saints.
The dancers depicted here (monks) are dancing "The Dance of the Eight Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche".
Conditions for photography were not great - deep shadow and bright sunlight were the order of the day but I hope you get a feel for the wonderful occasion.

Color is really beautiful, especially vivid red of the dancers' costume attracts me strongly. Luminous impression is also expertly represented. Very fascinating work!
