[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Lhuentse dzongkhag is one of the remote provinces to the north, the small city lies on a crescent-shaped slope facing a central hill from which the strategically placed dzong overlooks the surrounding valley. On my visit to the dzong I met with one of the officials involved in the city planning, and just as in most other towns in the country newbuilds are springing up at good pace. Apart from new residentials there are also plans to move the entire marketplace into new dug out terraces above the main road.

Reaching Lhuentse requires driving along a partly paved, partly dirt road which is susceptible to landslides during bad weather. The road slithers up the canyon dug out by the Kuri Chhu river. Lhuentse is also the starting place for the trek to the remote Singye dzong, a difficult to reach dzong in the mountains to the northeast.
