Photographer’s Note

At last I'm ready to post some of my Bangladesh pics. I've jumped ahead slightly in chronological order to show you this one first because these two girls really captivated me.

Poverty in Dhaka is rife and many families suffer a miserable existence with little to eat and only a tiny shack to live in. The children tend to run in the streets when they are not working. But for all this they still seemed happy and full of life.

I met a group of these children on the shore of the Buriganga River at Sadarghat, the main ferry terminal of the city. The children were delighted that I took an interest in them and that I wanted to take their photograph. They were thrilled to be able to see the results on the camera's LCD screen.

I particularly liked these two girls because of the contrast in the colour of their skin and the clothes they are wearing. I didn't have to tell them to pose like this. They just jumped in front of my lens and held each other in a close embrace with their faces touching.
