When I visited the Khan's Palace (Lonely Planet: "set in a walled rose garden") the only flowers I found were these artificial water lilies floating in a (not working) fountain by the front door. The joy of visiting places out of season...
I must admit though that the palace (Xan Sarayi) is nevertheless very beautiful (see WS). But here is the ultimate reason (I promised Gert I would reveal) why I didn't fall in love with Sheki: you can only visit the interior accompanied by a local guide AND the first thing you see as you enter is... a "no photography" sign. There may be a practical reason for that but I felt extremely disappointed having read in my Lonely Planet (well, published 6 years earlier) that photography is allowed once a special "photography ticket" has been obtained for the equivalent of 3 USD.
Before arrival, based on what I had read about Sheki, I was planning to stay for at least two nights but I could only get a room for one night in the Caravanserai (see my previous post) and it turned out to be a "lucky lack of luck". Next morning, feeling a bit down, I left for Lahic in the mountains, which turned out to be the highlight of my trip. But that's a story for the next few uploads...
In WS: the amazing facade of the Khan's Palace and the only interior photo I managed to "steal" - I went back in and took a snap of the back door from the inside while both local guides were busy showing people around the front of the building.

This is a most original and different upload from you. These flowers look great, in their own way and seen here from some distance, but I can imagine your disappointment. There is something rather pathetically funny about this. (Maybe it says something about the LP guides too). This time the story behind the photos is just as important as the pictures themselves. Clearly Azerbaijan has some way to go to become a streamlined destination for tourists. Maybe that is something to cherish, but sticking to such outdated totalitarian rules about photography just seems so stupid.
An interesting story anyway, and now you really make me look forward to the Lahic photos.

Ciekawe zdjecia w WS, zwlaszcza ta fasada warta zobaczenia a i wnetrze ciekawe.
pozdrawiam, czekam na nastepne..

Beautiful, even if plastic.
A photographic capture with the taste of an oriental carpet.
TFS and best regards

Tłumy mi zdecydowanie przeszkadzają, więc wolę fotografować miejsca poza sezonem. Kwiatki są dekoracyjnie rozłożone, ale zdecydowanie bardziej podobają mi się Twoje zdjęcia w WS :)
