Started in 2007 and completed in 2012, the complex of three skyscrapers (South West and East) called Flame Towers is the tallest landmark in Baku. The shape of the buildings refers to Azerbaijan's Zoroastrian past.
As soon as I saw them I thought they would make for a good blue hour subject. Little did I know that at dusk the Towers would turn into colourful, constantly changing LED screens. Here, the Towers displaying the colours of Azerbaijan flag.
I was going to upload a WS with another shot showing these buildings towering over the Old City but there already is a very good one on TE taken at the time when the Flame Towers were still being constructed:

Witaj Kasiu, Jaka ciekawa architektura w Baku.

The Baku skyline has changed a lot since my very brief visit in 2004. These flames are quite fascinating and must have cost a fortune. Their significance to the face of the city grows with the inclusion of the more traditional buildings. I also like the inclusion of the street lights which give the lower part a fine warm glow in the blue hour.
As for Polish food I haven't actually tried any pierogi yet, but I certainly will. I love the zurek, the sausages and the golonka. Golonka may have been a once in a lifetime experience. I had no idea they were so HUGE.
Greetings from Poznan.

Zdravo Kasia. Fascinating architecture and one that I like-anything to get away from the purely economical, cheap, unimaginative shoebox buildings that blight so many cities, especially the newer ones like those found in the southern hemisphere.i acknowledge that this is a difficult shot but then as usual, you pull it off with aplomb. Srdacni pozdrav. Klaudio.

Hello Kasia - If I had been asked to guess the location of this shot, I would have been far off the mark and your shot has sent me on a search to discover more about the city and Zoroastrianism. Fascinating and a super, well composed and managed shot.

This is a great blue hour scene. Those three buildings are very attractive, and we don't get to see the skyline of Baku very often. I also like the illuminated blue structure, the golden color on the lower left, and the two people leaning against the fence. There are so many nice details to enjoy this photo.

Wow, niesamowite wrażenie, architektura, że czapki z głów, super zdjęcie,

For sure a good photo subject.
I was simply not knowing it.
The composition is balanced in the cropped frame.
The 2 lamps in the corner are a bit too strong. It could have been managed doing a second under-exposure then manually blending the 2 shots in Photoshop. But it starts to be heavier to manage.

zdecydowanie cos w moim guscie:)
Flame Towers wygladaja niesamowicie-faktycznie ksztaltem przypominaja plomienie.Do tego blue hour tez dodaje uroku calej scenie.

I have to be honest...this is a country and a city that I basically know nothing about. I wonder how many other people feel the same.
those are some pretty interesting towers, I have to say that i really enjoy them, and even the blue glowing form on the bottom of the photo is a nice complimentary subject too.
lucky for you to have the 2 men in it for size/scale.
Waylim (24952) 2014-07-12 0:00
I have never even heard of Azerbjian :( Very unique looking structure and with the city light and blur hour, make it colorful and lively. I like the presence of the two men to give a sense of liveliness. Excellent work with good exposure.

Very interesting and attractive buildings and other details!
Very beautiful architecture & urban picture, that transports me to a place it'll be very difficult for me to visit!
