Once more view of the Khor Virap Monastery with Ararats peaks in the background.
Mount Ararat (Turkish: Ağrı Dağı; Armenian: Արարատ or Masis Մասիս) is a snow-capped, dormant volcanic cone in Turkey. It has two peaks: Greater Ararat (the highest peak in Turkey and the entire Armenian plateau with an elevation of 5,137 m or 16,854 ft) and Lesser Ararat (with an elevation of 3,896 m or 12,782 ft).
Below we see vineyards, maybe they will be used for Ararat brandy.
Ararat is an Armenian brandy that has been produced by the Yerevan Brandy Company since 1887. It is made from Armenian white grapes and spring water, according to a traditional method. The distinctive aroma and rich bouquet of these Brandies allowed the Yerevan Brandy Company to enjoy considerable success in international exhibitions and tastings.
An undocumented anecdote claims that during the Yalta Conference, Winston Churchill was so impressed with the Armenian brandy Dvin given to him by Joseph Stalin that he asked for several cases of it to be sent to him each year. During a 2013 meeting at his personal villa in Sochi, Russian president Vladimir Putin gave British Prime Minister David Cameron a bottle of Armenian brandy as a gift, recalling Stalin's offering to Churchill in 1945. (from Wikipedia)
All organized trips go to this factory for degustation. I saw it from outside and it was enough for me.
The mountain can be seen on the coat of arms of Armenia but lies in Turkey. The border is very close to the monastery, something like half kilometer. One can see the border posts from there. But there are more countries around. Close to the left side of Lesser Ararat is the border Turkey-Iran. And around twenty kilometers from there it is an interesting place where four countries meet: Armenia, Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Hello dear Malgo my neighbour today,

I have never heard of this brandy, but I can imagine Churchill's delight at receiving this gift. The panoramic format suits perfectly. The graphical lines of the vine supports add interest and serve to give the image depth. I like the light and colours. Very good sharpness.

A great view of the two Ararats on a beautiful day. The monastery is very well placed and looks good from many angles.
The link to the big photo leads to a quite different picture, posted in 2005!

Wonderful mighty-looking peaks!
Very interesting, attractive and beautiful picture too!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, slim horizontal format (it deserves a larger version), chosen pov and composition are all excellent!
TFS - congrats,

Beautiful composition with great contrast between FG and BG and the monastery giving it a larger dimension. Lovely light too!
marabu61 (7209) 2014-05-04 4:31
Now that is quite a view. The clarity of the impressive snowcapped volcanos is impressive and the vineyards provide the perfect foreground. Lovely also the hill with the castle to the right, it adds a pleasing extra layer to the composition.
have a great day

Beautiful landscape! And it's nice to see this snow-covered mountain, something I have learned from my history class. Good lighting and nice details with wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

I knew of Ararat, but not that there are two! Learning about the world never stops here on TE :) You chose a very beautiful composition too, the mountains in the distance seem to be from a different world than these fences in the foreground, and the building composed to the right is like from a fairytale. Nicely done
P.S. Thanks for your comment on Kings Bridge. That particular bridge is the opposite end of the city from the Samuel Beckett, up towards the park and well away from the sea.

Wow, you had lovely, clear day and what a difference that makes... When we visited it was hazy and we could see the peaks but not so clearly the rest of the mountains... On the other hand, vineyards were green, full of grapes... You win some, you lose some I suppose...

Fascinating this great panorama that offers this wide plain in the foreground, in the middle to show up the monastery on the hill, to close with the majestic panorama of Mount Ararat snowy, wonderful, perfectly executed picture.
I hope you enjoy your trip through Andalucia and your Spanish is very good, you will not have problems, people are very friendly South.
An image to enjoy, with its beautiful colorful, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Happy start to the week.

Très belle vue panoramique avec ces deux superbes sommets semblant flotter dans le ciel, le monastère et les rangs de vignes en premier plan.

Twin Peaks! A very beautiful view and a fine picture with the pattern from the vineyard dominating the foreground and the caste providing a certain eye-catcher .

You really had excellent weather for these great views of the Greater and the Lesser Ararat!
I'm starting to think that April is a much better month to visit this region than summertime.
With the snow connecting both peaks, this looks like an whole mountain range.
Imagine the border wasn't closed and that you could cross it there to go to Turkey.
The monastery has a wonderful setting.
Best regards, Paul

Ciao cara Itchy Feet
Ahh this reminds me so much of the landscape around Mt Etna in Sicilia. Beautiful powdery blue tones and white contrasts. I love the symmetries and geometries of the vineyards in the FG. What wonderful countryside, something I would have never imagined in this country.

This is a vantage point I do not know, but appreciate very much. Thirty-years ago I was on the Turkish side of the border in the town of Dogu Beyazit.
Warm regards, Malgo, Happy Mother's Day.
jmdias (51845) 2014-05-27 6:48
high mountains are ever impressive and these ones are fabulous. despite this it is rare to see images of this famous peak linked to Noah. very nice use of the structures and vineyard in FG. I liked the light and the special mood of the compo. TFS.
this image make me remember two volcanic peaks I will post some weeks ahead in my African gallery.
mcmtanyel (9947) 2014-06-27 17:02
I must confess that I forgot Ararat had twin peaks. This is an excellent photo showing both peaks and I also like both of the workshop photos, you gave us three for the price of one here.
