Photographer’s Note

The monastery is also 2 km southeast of the town of Alaverdi. The oldest references to the monastery were found in early 10th century Armenian manuscripts and relate that the monastery was constructed over the ruins of a 4th or 5th century church. The complex consists of several buildings which date from different periods: the larger church of S.Amenaprkitch (Holy Redeemer), the smaller, adjacent church of S.Astvatsatsin and its gavit, the round chapel of S.Gregory, an academy, a bell tower and a library. An invasion by the Mongolians in 1235 is cited as a cause for the general decline of monastic life and the subsequent decay of the monastery itself. It was during this and other invasions that much of the monastery was destroyed, including the living quarters of the monks, the church of S. James, a 10th century gavit, a caravanserai and the Tomb of the Kiurikian.

Tous mes compliments,
Emilius

Hi Andrea, So you went to Armenia, it is so interesting! Is it safe to go there? Have you gone with organized group, or you prepared it by yourself? I have heard that it is very interesting there and in georgia. well, in Giorgia it is rather dangerous now. Very beautiful photo. This church looks very old. I like the bushes on the roof! good colours and very nice composition. Thanks for sharing, there is not so many photos from this part of the world.

Ciao Andrea!
This photograph is truly magnificent!
Every single detail in it, in my humble opinion, is placed so perfectly in the image! In adittion to that, sharpness, exposure, depth of field, colors, pov and composition are all outstanding features... I cannot see even a tiny flaw checking out all over the image! The ancient building looks fantastic surrounded by all those tones of green and different types of plants! The mountains in the background and the sky concludes the good work!
I really like it! It's pleasant and wonderful!
TFS - congratulations!
Best regards,
Neyvan
