I saw this woman in the food market of Gyumri, northwestern Armenia. As usual I intended to sneak a picture without her knowledge, to get a more spontaneous shot, but as she noticed me I felt obliged to ask for her permission. She seemed very happy to pose, but in a way I felt she wasn't really posing, she just gave me a nice smile.
I have cropped the original picture, but you can see it as a workshop. I can't identify what she was selling, but everything was covered in flour - including her right hand - which made it a bit overexposed.

In the thumbnail she looks like a householder from a poster or postcard of 1950th. Clever cropped photo, an interesting portrait.

What a happy portrait of this delightful lady - she seems to be really pleased to honour you with a photograph of her.
Like yourself, I really have bo idea what she is selling here - these foodstuffs look like something wrapped in leaves and given a large coating of flour.
Your cropped version here has much more impact and shows the lady's happy smiling face perfectly whereas the workshop picture gives us a fine and wider view. Both are excellent with lovely vibrant colours and lots of detail and I don't think they look overexposed to me - at least not on my monitor.

this is a lovely candid portrait, the way you've cropped the larger picture is wonderful and most effective. The lady's posture is very comfortable within the frame, she trusted you and cooperated with you superbly. She is relaxed and confident, offering a lovely generous smile. The sharp capture of textures and details gives us much information about her making our contact with her firmer (although we still don't know what the delicacy she is preparing is -I guess it's destined for the frying pan). The portait is illuminated very well and the natural colours are delightful. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Great decision to crop - she is the real focus here, not whatever it was she was selling. While overexposure is still a problem on the apron and a bit on the pile below her hand, it's more than made up for by the wonderful bright smile and ruddy complexion of the subject. You've really brought her to life here, Gert - I can get a sense of her personality easily from this simple capture, the goal of any good portrait.
It does look like there are some PP remnants in the shot - blurriness on her left shoulder, for example, along with the right bicep; not sure if this was due to a clone edit or something else.

My first impression of this picture was that it was perfectly cropped. Then I read your note and can just agree with, this is a very well balanced capture. I have no idea what this could have been, was it edible?

It is daily Life. That is what the lady seems to be stating. But there is a certain confidance about this look. She just smiled knowing that you were clicking. The photograph reflects the confidence in 'daily life' and I like the overall attitude to facind unknown persons - with or without a camera.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Gert, I looked at workshop and like you, I have no idea what she could sell. Why you haven't asked or looked closer? But it is not so important. Beutiful photo and I like this cropped version more. Nice smile of the lady. Her face looks as often exposed to wind and sun. Excellent shot.

This is a great cheerful portrait of fine quality, a lovely and compelling shot with her timmid and honest smile makes me feel good. An eye-catching shot with my view hovers from blue, white, her face and the eye catch light. The soft background color complements well to the ambient and enables us to focus on her facial feature. Really admire your sense of photography! Wonderful and attractive portrait. Congrats, TFS

this is something quite different in you gallery!
I think this is a very beautiful portrait - the expression on her face is showing a lot of self confidence. I also like the way she is looking at you. A great capture and a nice note!

I like both version, the main one show her with close up details, while the WS show the overall of the market and her products. I like her friendly smile with red cheeks. Once again a classic.

You're capturing well this portrait by a natural pose and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see the saleslady in the food market with nice smile. From her expression, brawniness is felt into tenderness. And, it's also impressive in apron that she is wearing. Even so, it is comfortable to see the expression of a smile also in a case of when.

Hello again Gert,
Nice portrait of this sells woman. I agree with you that she didn't think much about posing, a friendly smile landed on your film..
I had a look of your original. I quite like it, it shows more about what she sells, even though I have no idea what they are...I guess that the reason that you cropped it because you wanted us to see more of her smile, and the plastic bags drew a bit attention..I took the liberty to have a play of your photo, hope that you don't mind. It will be upload on WS.
Have a good day, Gert. Back soon.
