Khor Virap monastery, with little Ararat (Sis)3925m. at left, and big Ararat(Masis) 5165m. at right. The monastery looks small in this frame because I wanted to include both of the Ararat peaks, I will add a zoomed in version to workshop. Taken in the morning around 7am with 33mm. focal length. The border with Turkey is just beyond the monastery. The monastery is one of the most photographed attractions in Armenia, with the iconic backdrop.

Hello Tan,
Always a wonderful composition of the landscape. Nice green field, monastery in that location imitating the mountain behind. Great shot. Regards. Latiff.

Fantastic shot! Mount Ararat is one of those magic names, so to see it live must have been quite a thrill. What makes this even more special is that there are 2 mountains, and they are both beautiful. The presense of the monastery is the icing on the cake. Excellent work!

No wonder that this monastery is the most photographed in Armenia, Tan. It is certainly not the monastery itself but the backdrop that makes it so popular. Little and big Ararat are a perfect backdrop for any foerground piece. The good weather conditions and the clear air favored to get it perfect.

Hi Tan!
Very nice landscape! Everything is beautiful, from the greens to the white top of that nice shaped mountains. Well captured!

Hello Tan,
I haven't been very present these last few days on TE (was busy prepraing the meeting that took place in Belgium last week), but it's nice to see back! As always, you've brought back wonderful pictures from your trip, but I'm particularly attracted by this one as I will attempt to climb Ararat next August. I like the soft morning light on the summits in the back and the monastery makes a perfect foreground subject. It's also a good idea to have framed those yello flowers in the corner.
Have a nice Sunday.
Brigitte

Hi Tan,

the region around Ararat really must be a BIG landscape in cinemascope... TFS Chris

Hi Tan!
Great POV and good composition with this amount of nice foreground for monastary and the nice mountans. It`s nice to see the yellow flowers in the corner.

This is a wonderful landscape. The background volcanos are extraordinary with all that snow. The monastery look more like an old fortress and it must be very interesting. Everything is nice in this picture. Well done.

it's a fantastic place Tan,
I realy like you point of view, the soft green and the monastery in the centrum of the shot, the colours are very soft, maybe a little contrast could be better for the shot, farther very good photojob here,
have a nice day.

Hola Tan: Quite impressive photo. I do love mountains so I´m very pleased with this photo and the way you have composed it with the monastery... Is it Armenia a worthy destination?

Hello Tan,
Very nice landscape with beautiful mountain.
I like the framing with the hill and the castle and the grass foreground.
Greetings.

Man, what un unearthly beauty. Not only these majestic mountains but also this unbelievable monastery.
What's a better place to travel,Tan, Georgia or Armenia? I think Armenia is safer nowadays. Is that right? I'm sure I want to make A bike trip through a Kaukasian country after seeing your perfect pictures.
Regards, Gerrit

I think the cropped panoramic version is a lot better Tan, there's way too much grassy foreground here.
It looks like an amazing place, and I like the balance between the two mountains that you achieved in your composition. For anyone who knows this style of architecture, the Armenian church gives the image an immediate sense of place.
Yep, it's a very good shot, I just think you posted the wrong version!

Cheers,
Ben

Hi tan.
Incredible depth for this volcanic landscape. One of these contributions (very common in your album) that makes me think: "wow, that's a place I'd like to discover!". I can understand that the monastery and its surrounding get a lot of atention from photographers!
Thanks for sharing.

hello Tan,
A nice light you have catched on the fields and the impressive background mountains.
good dof.

Hi Tan
This is indeed iconic. The lighting defines well the monastery against the backdrop, the colours and contrasts are stunning and the foreground flowers add a nice touch. I imagine will see more pictures of this mountain quite soon when a certain TE member climbs it!
Enjoy the rest of the WE, Susanna

Hello Tan, It must be a coincidence or maybe a sign ... I've done workshop few days ago on the hphoto from very same location. Armenia is definitely on my list of places to go, so I am bit jealous that you seem to be always one step ahead. I'd love to hear how did you travel around Armenia and what was your experience over there. Beautiful landscape shot that inspires others to travel over there. Lucie

PS: back to your earlier comment... YES, Kuwait is as unphotogenic as you can imagine.. but don't worry I'll compensate for it in surrounding areas!!!

Olá Tan

Hi Tan,

The different plans of elevation are here really impressive. From the plan to the high mountains, and at middle a little and curious peak. It's a big perspective, and a very beautiful landscape. The castle at the midground, and the mountains of backgroun are incredibly beautiful! Thanks.

Angel.

This is so nice. A very powerful lansacpae. Your picture has so much depth and is showing so much detials. Compsotion is perfect, colours so natural and beautiful. An excellent owrk. I wish I get there sometime. In my favorites.

Hi Tan,
Wow that's a landscape, wide spaces and emptiness, except for the rising monastery structures, I like it; Funnily the left summit looks a bit like the volcan Sajama in Bolivia, just need to clone the laguna Chungara in the foreground ;-)
Have a nice day, JY

Dear Tan,
Great shot. This is a romantic and picturesque photo. I like the fascinating mountains in the background and the stunning atmosphere. Fabled work, Congratulations. Have a nice week

Hi Tan

Hello Tan,

This is an unfamiliar angle for the Mount Ararat (Agri), which I climbed in 1984. I was serving as the 'cautious scientific advisor' on an expedition in search of Noah's Ark, and along on the expedition was the Astronaut James Irwin. We didn't make across to the Armenian or Iranian side, but certainly saw the Isak Pasa Palace on the Turkish side, which I initially thought the panoramic photo depicted. The mountain (Agri) looks absolutely majestic, with the Ahora Gorge prominently in view. The morning angle has of course revealed the Eastern facade of the great mountain. I would like to offer my genuine gratitute for sharing this image with us, so rare among even those of us who know the mountain.

Warm regards,
Bulent

Serwus Tan !
Like taken from a dream about furthest journeys, and this place is real ! Stunning setting for a serious photography, and this is it. Like it the way it is, as the shades of greens are so vivid and fresh, so no cropping for me :)
Best wishes,
Mat

Hello Tan

What else did you do in this trip of yours (sorry to ask i havent been very active lately)
COmposition is sharp and crisp, very well captured and composed.

Hi Tan,

esplendid capture. Amazing resolution. It's nice see that nothing is out of focus due to the efficient DOF. Great capture indeed!

Hi, Tan. Looking at your picture, it's quite easy to understand why this place attracts so many photographers. There is a very good progresion in your picture from the green valley to the mountain plateaux and finally the simmits. The light is very good and the snowy summits stand well out against the blue sky. The large view allows us to see the monastery is well posted on the rocky outcrop dominating the valley.

Hi Tan,

Do you know the music of Armenian/American composer Alan Chankmakjian Hovhaness? (hovhaness.com)

Wondrous image .. you really communicate the soul of the place with these peaks ... the rugged fields .. and ancient buildings .. from your typical perfect point of view.

take care,

John

Hi Tan:

Wow! The sharpness and clarity of this picture are fantastic. Including the monastery in the foreground helps convey how big the mountains are (or vice versa as well!). Great job.

Salam To the great traveller
It's a wonderful place with very good lights (lucky man).
The sudden separation betwenn the greens and the back ground gives an interesting interest to your composition.
Cheers.

Iconic, is certainly right, Tan. The mountains are majestic. One can see where they feature so much in myth and legend. The layered effect of the sky, the mountains, the monastery and the grasslands, creates and varied and stable setting. It creates a sense of timelessness. Even the yellow wild flowers at the bottom right; provide nice context and a good lead in to the composition. Regards Kevin

I agree with ben4321, too much grassy foreground. The location is stunning but you haven't made the most of it IMHO.

This one is attracting me as it reminds me of Peru, just replaced the grasses by badlands and you got it.
A wide view that shows the whole area as it stands, well done, a majestous plac.
I prefer the WS version by the way, more imtimate, better contrast between the monastery and the base of the mountain.
