Hallo Marc,
Toen ik de kleurenversie zag wist ik niet meer zeker of ik deze beter vind. Daar zijn de huidtinten zo mooi egeaal dat het bijna een studio opname is geworden, iets wat mij zeer aanspreekt.
Maar hier in zw geeft het een bepaalde charme en geeft de man een waardige blik. Misschien wat veel grijstinten en weinig contrast, maar als ik de kleurenversie zie dan had je ook niet veel ruimte om mee te spelen.
Scherpte is absolute top, zoals een portret moet zijn...prachtig.

Hi Marc! This is a really good portrait shot. Great sharpen details - wrinkles on his face. Yes, his eyes are very 'strong'.. Afghanistan is not lost and people there still fights for the better life.
I hope sun will shine for them soon..

Un très beau portrait en noir et blanc, et tu as su faire ressortir les yeux malgré le fort soleil et fort contrastes naturels (souvent, cela "bouche" les yeux).
Un portrait, un vrai.

J'aime les détails très précis de cette image mais je crois que j'aurai préféré ce noir et blanc un peu moins gris... notamment que les noirs deviennent plus noirs...
Sinon j'aime également que tu ais opté pour un cadrage aussi rapproché...

Bonjour Marc,

On remarque quand même que la vie doit être très dure dans ce pays. les gens vieillissent vite et meurent jeunes, comme tu l'as écrit toi même. Je pense que l'hygiène quotidienne doit y être aussi pour quelque chose!
Je ne crois pas qu'il soient des maniaques de la brosse à dent par exemple!
Le noir et blanc est vraiment souvent un must pour le portrait, spécialement quand les traits sont durs comme ici. L'objectif a un joli bokeh! Pas mal pour ce "petit" appareil!

Un superbe portrait plein cadre pour nous revéler jusqu'au grain de la peau. Techniquement, il est superbe, mais j'aime aussi beaucoup l'intensité du regard.

Given the choice i would prefer the colour version but that is not to take anythign away from this version.
A compelling portrait super sharp in details excellnty focused on his eyes. The tight crop is excellent.

Or, better yet: 1300 years...(to be on the safe side)

I know this guy very well... Everyone knows him...
In 1883 he got a rifle on his seventh birthday from his father - a mighty Muhadjeen...
And then – when he grew up – he became a mighty Muhadjeen and offered a rifle to his 5-years old son…
I remember his son very well, too..
His grand-grand-grand child got on his sixth birthday a Kalashnikov AK -47… The newest edition of it… A real marvel…
A most delightful, shiny toy a young boy in Afghanistan can get from his loving parents…
That boy is then fully prepared to defend his motherland against the blood thirsty neighbors…
And he too will be a freedom fighter like all the others young men in his country…
Because freedom and democracy is the second best thing a man can desire (right after a war for freedom and democracy, which is undoubtedly – the BEST thing one can get ).

The hands of this good man, in your photo – were touching the barrels of many, many weapons… Throughout his entire life…
Possibly – he was much better than anyone else of making a good use of these weapons… Just possibly (?) (the competition in this field is very stiff in his country)…
He was always ready to fight for freedom, happiness and democracy of his people.
So help him God, and his sons, and grandsons and their sons…
To fight all of the future, glorious wars for freedom and democracy in his country… There is so many of them to come…The whole country is thrilled with anticipation…
The spirit lives on… Well and kicking…

What an intersting face and expression.A great exposure with perfect sharpness and very fine details at his face.I`m not the greates fan of B&W ,but here it works very well.I like to the tight framing.

Marc,
an excellent portrait in B&W! The details in his face a crisp as it gets and those eyes ... great detail. You're right there is no sign of being broken in that look but certainly a certain grim expression around those eyes and mouth. Ready for another round of fight. The question just remains - what fight will finally put peace to that country.

J'ai toujours prefere les portraits de personnes d'un age certain, les gens ont beaucoup plus de dignite, surtout dans les pays ou ils sont fiers comme ici, tres belle realisation dans cette image qui a un impact fort, je prefere cela aux terrains vagues...

who you really are? A jurnalist, an artist, politician? You've captured daily life in Afghan so complete. But offcourse, you are a very good photographer! Une vie bien présente, oui, dans ce regard. Au contraire de Franck, j'apprécie le traitement clair, la lumière forte. On pourrait compter chaque poil de ses sourcils, de sa barbe. Les textures sont magnifiques.
