Market day in Kunduz, northern Afghanistan, in May 1973. Same place as yesterday's picture. It was quite common to see Afghan men carrying guns in public, often with cartridge belts across their chests. Every one's right to carry weapons to protect their homes and families was as natural in Afghanistan in those days as it is in the USA today. It was with homemade guns like these that the resistance against the communist regime started in 1978.

Hi Gert
This is a piece of journalism and history. Great capture, and good quality scan. I like the DOF used here and the wore out colours.
Good work.

Hej Gert,
I thought I saw guns in your previous photo as well; here is the explanation. A good documentary picture, as such it doesn´t have to be perfect, I´m thinking of the gun across the face of the man to the left. I also think it is a bit too dark, so I made a WS but that one came out too light so do not bother with that.

Ciao Gert,
Beautiful testimony of life, unfortunately daily, in this Country tortured by the war. Despite the film scanning, the image results very clear and with the natural colors. You have done really a good job.
I wish you and your family a good Christmas.
Paolo.
Hi Holmertz,
I dont have anything else but deep praise for ur charming & out of this world photos. They are simply superb, and thanks indeed for having shared them with us. Almost from the same culture and area, it reminded me of so many glorious things regarding my own childhood and people.
