Photographer’s Note
In the capital of one of the poorest countries some young Afghan guys ran up to the hill and did their exercise, drawing attention both of their more traditionalist fellow countrymen and foreign visitors. It was really strange in this kingdom of totalitarian puritanism and grey-brown dust to see their very modern activity, in funny colourful sportive dress and with offensively bare legs and arms...
What was behind their dedication, even passionate concentration ignoring all habits and prejudice prevailing and governing this country for a long time? Did they just workout their physical condition, or they demonstrated something? Or both?

This exercise serie (Afghanistan vs USA or vice versa) uncovers not only differencies but confirms similarities. No matter where you are, in destroyed countryside or rich city, basic people´s needs and same, and exercises is tailored to possibilities - gym, modern fitcentre or muddy/dusty ground. I like the composition and its deep human beeings aspect.

I like the comparison between this and your subsequent post from the US, Peter. Except for the guy with the green hat walking into the frame which I don't like, the composition of your photograph is good with all parts of the foreground and background showing the devastation resulting from so many years of war. Cheers . . . David
