In the foreground is close-up detail of one of the domes at Chist. A wider view of this building and information about it is here. The architecture is from the Ghorid period. The distinctive decorative design is typical of this time and can also be seen on the Minaret of Jam here.
In the distance is a mosque built in more recent times. OK, so it's hardly modern but it's new in comparison to the dome.

Great contrast between the details of the erodaded decorations and the smooth simple modern mosk and the vague contours of the dry mountains.
Thanks and regards, Gerrit

hi nice composition, i liek the division into two, the close-up and the distant minarets, i liek the fact that the edge of the wall is irregular which adds some charm and makes it better than if it were a straight wall ( i am not sure if you knwo what i mean) anyway, great place.. afghanistan...

Hi Jonathan, You have well made use of the old architecture to frame the view of the new mosque. This picture has well shown the transition of the culture, the religious, and the thought in the area. Good to include the mountain and the blue sky as the beautiful background. Well done.

A lot to notice hear with the historical monument, contrasting with the mosque and the mountains in the distance. The details on the dome could possibly be excerpts from the Koran. This is common with architecture of the time and location. Seems to come out well here, with the colours well balanced.

hi Jonathan. nice detail and contrast in the buildings. the light is a bit harsh on this one, though... but i guess you have been spoiling us with such great light on all the other photos.

Magnific DOF and original composition. The contrast is wonderful and the new-old mosque is a very beautiful one to see. The lovely softness of the mountains in the background, add a plus to the image. Well done,

Good combination of those two building in this shot. The detail of the oldest building on the left is beautiful. I like the colours and lighting too, good work!

Good composition plenty of contrast: the light and the shadow, the old and the new building,...
A simple but nice work.

I like the double pane composition here. Very well seen and captured. The light is also interesting the way is hitting part of the old mosque. Nicely done! Have a nice weekend!
