As the sun sinks towards the horizon, its golden rays cast long shadows over the mountains. The relief of the landscape can be seen to dramatic effect and the rich colours of the earth are illuminated with a warm glow.
This is another shot taken by leaning out of the minibus window on the road from Chist-e-Sharif to Obey.

Those mountains are magnificent! The setting sun and the shadows it casts lends such a peaceful feeling to this composition.

Very pretty Jonathan and well captured from the minibus! I ususually land in the middle somwhere squeezed in behind luggage or big grandmothers with no possibilities of making any decent photos.
Thanks for sharing!

Very good composition here. The mountains are stunning what can only mean you've chose the very right moment to capture this scene. Good colours as well!

Hi Jonathan. glorious scenery. the light is spectacular and a nice play with the deep shadows in the hills. nice layering of the colors as well. great job, especially for shot on the move.
bboss (3578) 2005-12-13 12:38
nice shot with beautiful shapes and colours of the impressive hills. The town looks so small in comparison. A shame you could not stop for a while...
weswang (18223) 2005-12-13 12:43
Hi Jonathan, An excellent PoV with a good timing. The low sunlight angle have well shown the mountain ridges. The different colors of the mountain show the distance. The contrasts enables us to enjoy the 3-D view of the beautiful scenery. Well done.

Splendid. It's splendid. My idea about Afghanistan change now, after looking your beautifull pictures on this country.
I like the colors and the contrast between the desert and the green valey.

no doubt, this country has a good touristic potential.
This landscape is very particular and the light on these mountains is superb.

This is incredibly vivid and lifelike! The clarity and sharpness with which the sun is lighting this scene is truly stunning. The colours are also very spcecial. In terms of scenic beauty, this is one of your best ever. Superb!

This is a great shot from a minibus. I've tried it many times but with little success. The light is nice and soft and the composition works well to emphasize the contours of the hills and deep shadows. The trees are a good aspect to the composition and enhances it well.

An excellent shot Jonathan which shows to great effect what a difference a low sun can make to a composition. Awesome view.

Marvellous shades and colours on this beautiful landscape. Good composition with the sight of the village in the foreground. I love that set of houses (I supposed they're houses...or may be not...) sunshined in the begining of the first hill.
Another very well captured, from the window of the minibus.
Thanks for sharing,

Bonjour Jonathan, Un trés bon POV, sur ses montagnes aux courbes et aux couleurs différentes,
l'ombre et la lumiére les rendent encore plus châleureuse, beau paysage.

Hi Jonathan - fantastic light, I like the various brown tones seen on the mountains, and the horizontal green stripe at the bottom adds a nice touch, being picky I wish there was a tall minaret or something sticking out of the village to complete the 1001 Nights feel. Great series of photos from a place I'm still not brave enough to visit.

Sorry the delay in comment your photos. I have been away from TE for about a month. I can see you continue posting beautiful shots of Afghanistan. This one is really impressive. You captured very well the arid mountains contrasting with the city on the bottom. Beautiful colours and great light.
My best regards.
rajhema (1873) 2006-01-27 13:47
Certainly Golden collection Jonathan. It is amazing to see how the land forms into such beauty. While i was driving towards San Francisco from Yosemite, I remember seeing such landscape just before the city. it is not as big as this one, but the beauty was facelifted with hundreds of wind mills installed. It was a feast to eyes. Superb collection Jonathan.

Jonathan, j'aime ces montagnes qui se succèdent comme des vagues avec des dominantes de couleurs différentes pour chaque plan. C'est très beau à voir !

Very nice landscape shot with a very nice light. There is so much contrast between the green land and the desert mountains. But the colors of the mountains are very interesting with all these tones.
Vato_Law (12732) 2006-04-16 4:33
Like the textures, golden colours and the amazing lightning reflected on these mountains. Also like the comparison we can make between the houses on the bottom part and this huge mountains.
partha (14023) 2006-04-21 22:29
stunning shot. beautiful landscape. i like the ups and downs and it gives the three dimentional effect suparbly in thsi two dimentional world of photography.
rbcy1974 (20758) 2006-05-19 11:49
This is trully epic, the golden colour of the mountains contrasted with the scarce greenery,
I see you took it in 2005, how did you manage to travel around the country? Was it dangerous?
jone (3231) 2006-08-14 8:57
Amazing, beautiful, perfect... Congratulations...

From such a distant land... far away from me, I'm so pleased by the beauty of this landscape!
It's a great POV, with so many layers of shapes and colors in the mountains - excellent light!

Wow! This is a stunning photograph - at first I thought I was looking at sand dunes. The lighting is great, changing both the colors and textures of the mountain in different areas, and the variation in the landscape adds interest to the composition. Thanks for sharing!
