At the End of the Day Photo

Photographer’s Note

At the end of the day the herder drives his cows home from the fields. The sun catches the dust that their hooves kick into the air. The children and the herder's dogs run around the cows to keep them in line.

This shot was taken from the window of a moving minibus on the road from Chist-e-Sharif to Obey. It was taken along the same road as one of my earlier posts, Heading Home.

très belle photo... Ca ressemble à un western avec ces rayons de lumière rasant la plaine.
Cette lumière est excellente et les couleurs magnifiques (j'apprécie beaucoup les couleurs pâles du fond de la photo)

Dust rising up from the road and the way it is highlighed by the sunlight is outstanding.
it is interesting to note the kid running in this photo and the amount of dust particles rising under his feet, give us the good idea about each impact of foot on the road and what a fast moving herd can do at this raod.
nice mountains in the background too.

Wow - this is an amazing shot. The light coming through the dust is almost like magic. The boys and the herder make for an interesting and well placed little group. I wonder if you have close ups of them? The overall look and feel of this photo is very professional - one of your best Jonathan!

Excellent lighting! And it made an exellent ambiance of this herd. The way the low sunlight cachthes only some parts of the landscape and particulary the very iluminated center of the herd, is just Superb! Lovely softness of the layers on the background. The detail of that kid, running over a spot of light, almost seems like a magic event...
And it's amazing to see this good result, since the shot was taken from a moving minibus.

Hi Jonathan, What a shot. I like the dynamics captured in this picture. The herd of the cow drove up the dust, which were well seen under the setting sun. The kids were running with excitement. You have well captured the beautiful view in the distance as well. An excellent shot.

Very atmospheric. The dust is brilliant and captures the light like a hotspot. The animals and people are well defined and the white sky is great. One of the few times when a white sky works really well.

Not only a very instructive picture about life in Afghanistan, but also an unique artistic result. The composition is so beautiful and the light fall so unique. The light in the herd reminds to Rembrandt!

Hi Jonathan- this is exactly the kind of scene one would expect to see in this country, the fact that it was taken from a moving vehicle is hard to beleive given the perfect sharpness.
