Photographer’s Note
As the sun sinks towards the horizon, its golden rays cast long shadows over the mountains. The relief of the landscape can be seen to dramatic effect and the rich colours of the earth are illuminated with a warm glow.
This is another shot taken by leaning out of the minibus window on the road from Chist-e-Sharif to Obey.

Those mountains are magnificent! The setting sun and the shadows it casts lends such a peaceful feeling to this composition.

Bonjour Jonathan,
Daniel.

Very pretty Jonathan and well captured from the minibus! I ususually land in the middle somwhere squeezed in behind luggage or big grandmothers with no possibilities of making any decent photos.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jonathan,
nice shot with beautiful shapes and colours of the impressive hills. The town looks so small in comparison. A shame you could not stop for a while...

Hi Jonathan, An excellent PoV with a good timing. The low sunlight angle have well shown the mountain ridges. The different colors of the mountain show the distance. The contrasts enables us to enjoy the 3-D view of the beautiful scenery. Well done.

This is a great shot from a minibus. I've tried it many times but with little success. The light is nice and soft and the composition works well to emphasize the contours of the hills and deep shadows. The trees are a good aspect to the composition and enhances it well.

Hi Jonathan,
Marvellous shades and colours on this beautiful landscape. Good composition with the sight of the village in the foreground. I love that set of houses (I supposed they're houses...or may be not...) sunshined in the begining of the first hill.
Another very well captured, from the window of the minibus.

Hi Jonathan - fantastic light, I like the various brown tones seen on the mountains, and the horizontal green stripe at the bottom adds a nice touch, being picky I wish there was a tall minaret or something sticking out of the village to complete the 1001 Nights feel. Great series of photos from a place I'm still not brave enough to visit.

Hi Jonathan,
Sorry the delay in comment your photos. I have been away from TE for about a month. I can see you continue posting beautiful shots of Afghanistan. This one is really impressive. You captured very well the arid mountains contrasting with the city on the bottom. Beautiful colours and great light.
My best regards.

Certainly Golden collection Jonathan. It is amazing to see how the land forms into such beauty. While i was driving towards San Francisco from Yosemite, I remember seeing such landscape just before the city. it is not as big as this one, but the beauty was facelifted with hundreds of wind mills installed. It was a feast to eyes. Superb collection Jonathan.

Very nice landscape shot with a very nice light. There is so much contrast between the green land and the desert mountains. But the colors of the mountains are very interesting with all these tones.

Hello Johnatan
This is trully epic, the golden colour of the mountains contrasted with the scarce greenery,
I see you took it in 2005, how did you manage to travel around the country? Was it dangerous?

Wow! This is a stunning photograph - at first I thought I was looking at sand dunes. The lighting is great, changing both the colors and textures of the mountain in different areas, and the variation in the landscape adds interest to the composition. Thanks for sharing!
