This traffic policeman stands at the centre of a junction in the town of Maimana. He stopped the vehicles so that I could photograph him. I think he was quite proud of his job and his uniform.
It's not a busy job as there is not much traffic travelling on the dirt roads. And few of the vehicles are motorised. In this town the taxis have been replaced by horse drawn carriages beautifully decorated with flowers.

A beautiful shot of the man with his all expressions. One can feel the proud he is feeling. Beautiful colors. Regards...

Hi Jonathan, Instead of traffic police, this figure looks like a military figure. The street scene made me believe that it is in a city. A good catch of the serious expression and his uniform. A well taken shallow DoF image.

Another excellent portrait of daily life. The lighting is well directed to show the detail in this man's face, and I like the out-of-focus background details which put the scene in context.

Very funny picture and note! I wonder why the traffic policeman exists if there isn't much traffic...
The composition has a pleasant originality with his arm dominating the diagonal of the photo and that nice expression of seriousness and responsability at the right side. As usual in your shots, the excellent sharpness, lighting and colours are impressive! Great contrast with the blurred bakckground where we can see that kid looking at the scene of your shooting. A very pleasant shot! Congratulations and thanks a lot for sharing it !

Yes indeed, he looks very proud. :-) You captured him well in this pose. The DOF and light are very well too. Great work!

Hi Jonathan - another great portrait! The lighting is excellent, the pose and expression is just right, and the background works well too, slightly blurred but still discernable. Superb!

Hi Jonathan, Superb! I really love how you framed this portrait! The expression of the policeman is just right, as is his attitude. Fantastic how the little boy just fits under his arm; what a timing! Excellent job! Sabine

A good, intense portrait this, with excellent lighting. So often it is difficult to get the lighting right with sun on the face. And fortunately he is not squinting. A good composition, with the policeman to one side of the frame and a nicely blurred background. Good work.

This is great! You captured a most expressful look on the policeman's face. He is really giving it his all.
Excellent capture of an interesting moment. Focus and light perfect!

I'm discovering your last shots...
I like very much this portrait, you had a perfect light on this policeman when the background is in the shadow.
I like his natural expression.
I think the little boy want to be a policeman later...

Hi Jonathan. Great occupational portrait... so funny that he would just stop the traffic like that. I like that you have 3 people here as well, but blurred and in the shadows... nice that the boy is wearing the same olive colors as the officer. excellent light as well.

As your others photos from Afghanistan: we need them, we can learn with photos... and that is not very usual.
Good work and... and merry Christmas.

Excellent framing, Jonathan, and great lighting, sharpness and DOF. It is a pity though that he is looking directly into the camera. If he had been looking away a little it would not have looked so posed, and would have looked more like a candid action shot. But I know how hard it is to get people to do that in situations like this - they tend to stiffen up and stare into the camera, believing that is what makes a good photograph! Cheers . . . David

Composition perfect - the frame is filled to capacity and makes the composition very balanced

I found this gem by looking thorugh your portafolio
Its a person that gives of a feeling of authority, nice light, and specially diagonal created by his arm.
