Photographer’s Note

A man riding his horse through the ruins of Balkh, an obscure Afghan town that in ancient times was one of the world's great cities. Not much was left of its grandeur when I was there in May 1973, when this picture was taken. On the other hand, it wasn't much affected by the wars of the recent decades, according to what I could observe on a short visit exactly 28 years later, May 2001.

Hej Gert,
The verical format works very well here, you have managed to include both the rider and the pidgeons on top. Very fine colours where the blue turban and the blue sky are contrasting fine to the stones.
