Photographer’s Note
Taken at one of our site camps for shelter building. I took this photo of our hard working "ashpaz" (cook) who prepared meals daily for our large staff of masons and carpenters involved in our construction project. Behind him above the flames he is preparing Palau, a staple in Afghanistan, which consists of oily rice and mutton. The staff would eat this everyday. I always made a point to go into the stable/makeshift kitchen to great him and say hello when I visited. In the summertime heat, tending the fire and stirring the smoky rice in this little room wasn't a pleasant place to be. However, my friend always was in good spirits and would greet me warmly. I found him a very gentle and kind man.

Nice shot, James !
Sharp and vivid color at the man's face. Good DOF although a more focused background and a POV a little bit to the left, allowing the fire to appear entirely would be better in my opinion.
Best regards,

Hi James, this is an impressive portrait shot of this man. Great light management & sharpness here, every detail of his face is visible. The fire in the background gives a good sense of atmosphere and place. Even though his expression is difficult to read, he looks like a gentle man. Your photo has captured this quality. egards,
Ryno
