Wellington’s words were true: "It is easy to get into Afghanistan. The problem is getting out again."
There are hundreds of these "Beasts of war" in this cemetery near Kabul and thousands across Afghanistan.
The British experienced it the hard way in 1842 (17 000 man lost, dead, only the doctor survived (because he had been treating the tribesmen with humanity)) and then the Russians followed the lead...

It's gonna take decades before the rust has done it's work and made those dinosaurs to dust.
It's gonna take the same time to heal the people suffering under this endless nightmare.
The picture is a strong image with an excellent temperatet light and a mild colorscale.

Hello Marc,
There is a kind of strange beauty in this picture, with the green rusty tanks against the rugged desert and mountains. But most of all it is a strong reminder of the decades of suffering for this poor country. When I first visited Afghanistan in the early 70's it was quite a lovely place.
Regards,
Gert
Bonsoir Marc,

Bravo,
Cath.
